bassfrequences said: I should warn you, the active substance is often concentrated in one area of the cap. I think one quarter of a medium sized cap is the dose, I'm not sure so check, but if you eat the quarter with all the magic inside then it would be 4 times the original dose! to avoid this, dry the cap thoroughly,(this will actually chemiclly change the muscarine to somthing else or vice versa) crush to fine powder, mix well, and eat a quarter of that. (or the original amount of the cap you wanted to eat)
Please dont give out false info..muscarine is a highly toxic poison and only found in muscaria in extremely small trace amounts. You cannot convert muscarine it into something else nor is it something you even need to worry about because the level of it is so small in muscaria.
Both the caps and the stems contain the actives, ibotenic acid and muscimole, although the cap is slightly higher in actives, the stems are fine to eat also and do contain actives.
A quarter of a cap would be good to use fresh to flavour a meal.
To convert the ibotenic acid into the 10X more active muscimole you'll need to only dry out the mushroom.
The best way ive found to use them is in small doses as a natural health tonic. Stupid people think that more must be better, these people do not understand basic biochemistry.
