I know that Iphones do this, not sure about others, but a program called opanda can be used to view this data from a photo.

The embedded data is called EXIF data, you should easily be able to find a program for your platform that will read/overwrite it. Also if you upload it to The Shroomery it will wipe the EXIF data.

As above - it is not generally speaking encrypted.
My phone also adds in the GPS co-ordinates of the phone when the picture was taken, great for hunting, not so good for security.
In Vista at least, you can right click the JPEG, go to properties then the Details tab.
You don't need an extra program - everything that has been saved by your phone is in there.
At the very bottom of the window, there is a link "Remove personal properties and information" - it will delete most if not all of the EXIF data.

Great, so if you use any technology you are making yourself wide open. Move often, change identities, appearance and do what you need to do.
Essentially technology is driving an underground movement to make people the most evil, wicked, dangerous people on this planet. No longer can you just commit a crime. They can track you down and hunt you like no other; causing you to plan your actions to an extent, that you become an super criminal.
