someone recently talked me into joining facebook. i was filling in my information and put in my first and last name. well, i go by my middle name so anyone who searches for me probably wont find me.
is there a way to change my facebook name or at least be able to add a middle name? or do i need to delete this account and start a new one?

i would stay away from facebook all together unless you like giving away all your personal information..
Quote:
via ComputerWold:
If you make purchases through Facebook, the service will store a copy your payment account number information in its database unless you opt out. Currently Facebook can only store those numbers with your explicit consent. Given the poor job the financial services industry has done protecting credit card and other consumer payment account data this would seem to be a very bad idea.
When you connect with an application or website it will have access to General Information about you. The term General Information includes your and your friends’ names, profile pictures, gender, user IDs, connections, and any content shared using the Everyone privacy setting. We may also make information about the location of your computer or access device and your age available to applications and websites.
the scary part about the first bit is obvious.
the scary part about the second part is that you have no control over your own privacy settings. your information can be taken from applications your friends use and sent to a 3rd party site.
AVOID FACEBOOK.

seriously fuck Facebook
they change their privacy policy every other day
now site scan add their Applications to your facebook profile WITHOUT CONSENT... WITHOUT YOU KNOWING. no this is not bullshit. checked my applications recently used after visiting yelp and discovery.com and sure enough i now had two applications that i never allowed.
i'm not talking about the 'connect with facebook' feature which is different. this is blatant attack on privacy.

theres a way to change your name, look around in your profile setup. Yeah facebook has privacy issues sure, dont put anything on facebook that you wouldnt already allow people to know, I mean people who put information on any site that they wouldnt normally allow someone to know, deserve to get frustrated. The only gay thing about facebook is how they changed there shit to be all open by default, before it was all closed by default and that was changed recently, them selling information, well thats nothing new, what site doesnt do that, if that bothers you then don't use amazon, don't use google.

There is no way you can delete your account or information. From the facebook servers. Facebook considers it property of Facebook, Inc. as soon as you submit it.
your information, IP, full name, who you message, the content of your messages, ect. is stored on a server in a data center FOREVER.
The admins of facebook can access all this information at will, even after you thought it was deleted. They have data centers scattered around the world storing everyone's information.
One of them happens to be in the second floor north west corner of Digital Realty Trust at:
3011 Lafayette St, Santa Clara, California 95054
I hope that wasn't suppose to be a secret.

it's not just what you put on there...
it's who your friends are... what your IP is...
with those two pieces of information, a LOT can be derived.

To be fair, as soon as you register on their website, you've made a choice to use it.
I would expect no less than for them to store all my actions on their databases - I store everything I can get my hands on about visitors to my websites.
It's like me inviting you around to a BBQ on my garden - and me logging your every move. I invited you here and you came by choice, so leave or stop caring that I'm watching.
Really though, is anyone paranoid enough to be worried that a website that big, with that many users, is logging your actions on their website? What do you think they are going to do with it? They don't care about you as a person, your a user.
