Not the source I got it from (don't have a scanner so can't scan my culinary text books) but it's exactly what is in my text books from a few years ago.

Contact your county conservation district. They should be in the phone book or you can google the name of your county followed by the words, 'conservation district'. They'll know of the farms in your area.
I doubt you'll find locally grown rye berries in your area though. They need a dry climate or they get hammered pretty hard with ergot. That's why so much of the rye grown in the Eastern or mid-western states has lots of ergot, while rye grown in Kansas or Nebraska, Montana, Alberta, etc., is relatively free of the fungus. And yes, I know what ergot is. RR

I asked how much for a 50 lb bag. They said they have a 56 lb bag for $17.00 but it's not for growing its only for feed. Does that matter?

I agree, Try a co-op, that's where I find mine.

If you cannot find rye & don't want to use a mixed wbs. Try SORGHUM, also called MILO, which many feed stores carry by 50 lb bags. It is used as mushroom spawn in many developing & 3rd world counties.
