cease to show any progress after start....

so i'm doing the PFtech and so far the mycelium is about in half dollar sized circles. however, i have yet to see progress for about a week or 2 now. i don't see any contamination. and they were kept at about 65 (out of my control, i know it's bad) but now they are at about 75-80, yet they still show no progress. Any thoughts of what the problem is and how to correct this?

Wrong jars, too compacted is my guess. And gas exchange maybe.

if so, what kind of jars should i be using?
and the bottom ones, the ge holes are about an inch in diameter and the top is basically, the jar ring and the rest is a (can't remember the name for it) but a cotton disc that allows gas exchange. the 1 inch holes have this cotton disc as well

hoping you mean tyvek. or polyfill (which isnt in discs)
also if thats the PF tek why didnt you use a dry verm layer as a contaminant barrier. it could either be lack of moisture, too compact (which i had troubles with as well) or lack of gas exchange. are you positive these cotton discs allow for decent air exchange?
what were your ratios for brf:water:verm.
because it seems you did not follow the pf tek closely

there is a dry layer of verm ontop (about quarter to half inch ontop). and for ratios of verm and water, i just soaked the verm until it could hold no more water (there was water in the bottom of container) and then added 1/4 cup of verm i believe, (i followed direction from a book). then added the brf from what the book called for.
and it's not tyvek it's synthetic filter discs http://www.mycosupply.com/cgi-bin/shopper.cgi?preadd=action&key=SFDI01
i didn't pack it into the jars either, i just spooned it in loosely

I'm not following. Could go into a bit more depth on how exactly you made those? I mean it does sound all wrong, but I would just like to help you correct your wrong turns and get you back on the right path.

i went according to "Psilocybin Mushroom Handbook" which called for 1/4 cup brf per jar and 1/2 cup verm per jar (plus extra for casing layer) and mix water w/ verm as I described above. then mix in brf in after that.
the way they were stored however may have blocked the top of the containers from getting the proper GE could this have caused my problems?

absolutely. they need air just like us. you must provide a way for GE.

Let me start to add the descriptions of all the things that I am doing wrong, in the hopes of that I can help others do better....
1. I varied the density of my substrate in my second batch of jars (yes, second. I am a baby) and I found that the second batch is colonizing slightly slower.
2. Of my first 12 jars, only one has shown contams after 2 weeks. This was a jar in which the verm barrier did not come up the the top of the jar....I noticed, belatedly, that the barrier was able to shift around in the free space above the substrate. I think that this allowed contams (green mold) to get to through the barrier.
So, the jar with all the air at the top is problematic. How did you reach the substrate with a syringe?
Good luck, and post what works.

also it's still possible to turn out good results even though there wasn't proper GE previously right? i now have them able to breath.

You should be fine with your syringes. As far as the jars, just leave 'em and see what they do.

so after letting the jars able to breathe, my mycelium has shown great progress, one jar's growth is even twice the size of what it used to be
