problem with incubator
    #1261491 - 01/30/03 10:58 AM (13 years, 10 months ago)

I did an Alien type incubator... thats a box with water in it and a submersable heater in the water, with a box fitting inside that box and the jars go in the second box.

In theory, the heat from the water goes through to the box above it, heating the container and provided a good temperature for which to colonize... but in an curb heat from excaping the water chamber, I bought a styrofoam cooler. This works great to keep the heat from escaping out... but it also prevents the heat from going into the chamber (the box that fit's into the bottom cooler is also a cooler)

Should I cut holes in the bottom and let water flow into the second chamber?
Should I trash the syrofoam all together?

You're input, please!

I think you're gonna be waiting forever for the inside cooler to come up to temp, and all over again every time you open it. I'd trash the styrofoam and go with rubbermaid tubs. They are pretty cheap and easy to use. Just isulate around the outside with a sleeping bag or someting similar, and it'll work great.
