Ambient artists like...
    #12519817 - 05/06/10 10:47 PM (13 years, 9 months ago)

I have really been enjoying ambient/downtempo electronic artists lately and I was hoping to get some more recommendations.

My two favorite are "Dreamland Society" by Marco Torrance and "Conscious Pilot" by Pan Electric. I also really like Carbon Based Lifeforms. I can't really think of anything that would sound like those, or at least the first two. If you havn't heard the first two, definitely check them out, but listen to the whole album because it's a journey.

Thanks shroomery!

From what I've heard, Biosphere is the go-to-guy in that genre

Saltillo is pretty rad.. they are more Trip Hoppy/Downtempo though.. the guy does a mix of violin, viola, piano, drums, some electronica elements and mixes in radio broadcasts of old shakespeare plays.

Saltillo - Giving In

Mr Cooper is awesome.
Two:

Mogwai pretty much goes without saying..

Climber's first cd was fantastic although a little less ambient.

a few other good ones that i dont feel like looking up videos for..

Mono
God Is An Astronaut
Godspeed You Black Emperor
Crippled Black Phoenix
The Album Leaf

theres tons more..

If you like CBL, checkout their label Ultimae.  A lot of the artists on that label sound a lot like CBL.  Especially Solar Fields.  Another great one, also on Ultimae, but rarely ever mentioned is Sync24, who's one of the members of CBL.  His album is an absolute masterpiece of ambient.  Seriously, check it out!

Also, make sure to checkout anything done by Matt Hillier.  Especially Ishq, Ishvara, Elve and Colourform...

Windy & Carl, Stars of the Lid, and William Basinski are essential.
