How long can you let MYC grow before it turns bad?
    #12614190 - 05/23/10 01:16 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

I'm planning on injecting spore into some grain bags later this week but I think it might not be a good idea.  I'm going on a vacation this time next month for a week which means the bags will be sitting for a month and a week until I open them up and start casing.

Is this too long for MYC to be growing?  Assuming that the MYC will completely consume the whole bag after a few weeks, is it alright that it just sits there for a few weeks longer?

Should I brake up the MYC every week to speed up colonization or since the bags will be sitting for 1.25 months should they not be sped up?

Any help will be appreciated, thanks again

Depends on temps and genetics and other factors. Hard to say.

Will the bags not be fully colonized after a month? If they're fully colonized by the time you go on vacation, you can just throw them in the fridge until you get back. Not sure how well that will work if they're partially colonized.

Yep,better to wait until they are 100% colonized and consolidated.

do you necessarily have to put the bag in the fridge once it is completely colonized?  What exactly does putting it in the fridge do opposed to just leaving it in room temp for another week?

it cultivates much slower in cooler temps.

the fridge lowers the temp and slows mycelial and bacterial growth.
