Growth in syringe
    #12604546 - 05/21/10 02:34 PM (14 years, 7 months ago)

The last batch of syringes I made I over did it on spores took a big print and made 7 syringes and used all  but 1 and yesterday I took the last one out to use on some test agar and it had growth in it which looked like mycelium. I tried to take picture of it but it did not turn out.

Has anyone had this happen there is 3 separate growths floating in the water. Would this be from using to many spores?

If it is mycelium floating around would this help with any contaminants there might be in the syringe?

Sometimes some spores will germinate in a syringe.
No big deal.

I have heard vibrations and temperature spikes can cause germination

I recently found syringes that I had ordered about 4 years ago (I moved to a new place and misplaced the syringes). They also had what looked like little strands of mycellium floating in them. Not a lot but there were a few. I noc'd up some jars with them and everything turned out to be ok. That's just my experience and I was probably just lucky it turned out ok.

I don't think too many spores would cause this. It's most likely due to the spores germing in the syringe and finding residual nutrients in the water to grow a bit. Spores germing in the syringe has been reporting quite a few times in the past. I think it's more common than we realize.

This happens a lot. Its really kind of a blessing in disguise if you think about it. I would suggest taking a few CC's of good growth and making an LC. 3-4CC's into a quart and put on a stir plate will make a nice thick LC in a very short amount of time.
