PF Substrate storage
    #1260257 - 01/30/03 01:58 AM (14 years, 3 months ago)

Ok I'm new but I dont think I've read anything about this, but I could be wrong.

I Prepared the PF jars with a BRF/Verm mixture and I boiled it in the jar for 1 hour. I then allowed it to cool. After it cooled I covered the holes with duct tape. When I was using the duct tape everything was sterilized with alcohol.

The problem is the syringe has not come yet so I can not innoculate it. How long will this substrate last before contamination?? Should it last indefinately if no contaminents survived the boil?

Thanks in advance

The jars will be fine, just innoculate them when your spores come. If the steam killed all the contams, and the jars are sealed, how are contams going to get in? If you don't see any sign of contams in the jars when your syringe gets to you, go for it. dankcrop is either trying to be funny, or is just ignorant on the subject matter at hand. Don't worry, your jars are fine.

Frank you can kiss my ass. All i was saying is that IMHO fresher is better. If he waits too long contams that may exist have a good chance to germinate, the sooner he innoc's the faster the mycelium will take hold, and over run any contams. You dont need to single me out you lamer. Touch your nose

i am new at this ,,, but... if the mycelia takes almost a month to colonize the substrate... it only makes sense that the jars would at leat last that long.... but i could be wrong

sterile means free of contams..... if he did it rite that is... think about the substrate bags sent to u in the maill.. i m sure these are not made fresh daily just for u , u know??./..and also... could he just wait... then re-sterilize the jar when he gets his syringe??
