COMP COW MANURE
    #12598763 - 05/20/10 03:10 PM (14 years, 7 months ago)

I have access to composted cow manure. I am starting a panaeolus cambodginiensis grow (first time) and was wondering if the CCM would be good to use, or would horse manure be better? I will be using the PF type tek with a recipe found here.

Another question; Is it better to dunk and roll these cakes or is casing them better?

Thanks.

I think H manure has a better texture.  Ammend your C manure with adequate amounts of vermiculite.

Badman is currently working with Pans.

If he doesn't show up here, you could PM him (I don't think he'd mind) and get some of your Pan specific questions answered.

You can also check out Blue Helix's pan posts.

Good luck.

Thank you very much. I will be using this:

PAN CYANS TEK

Mix for 10-12 half pints:
5 cups vermiculite
3 cups manure
10 tblspns BRF
1.5 - 1.75 cups water
Fill your canning jars, sterilize for an hour in a pressure cooker and inoculate via the PF tek method. Once your substrate is fully colonized, crumble and case with 50/50+.
Since the manure is already added to your substrate, there is no need to spawn with manure and risk contamination in this step. Just place your cased substrate into your humidity chamber and watch them grow! His method follows the PF Tek for growing Cubensis, except for the addition of pasteurized manure directly to the substrate and a 50/50+ casing to fruit. Once your half-pints are fully colonized with pan mycelium, case with a thin layer (half inch) of 50/50+. This method is less prone to contamination than spawning on dung, and yields good results. The casing is jiffy mix seed starter.(pretty much 50/50 peat/verm with lime added for ph)pasteurized for 2 hours, and it was about 1/4 inch.

I was wondering if cow or horse manure is best. I will incorporate your tek with this one probably.

Does the manure have to be composted, or can it just be dried?

I prefer going out in the field and finding my own aged manure over buying it store bought.

Store bought can get muddy texture
