I'm going to start my first casings (surprise)...
    #1259861 - 01/29/03 05:28 PM (21 years, 2 months ago)

Alright, I feel I'm ready to move into the world of casings as I've had two very succesful grows just using the ordinary PF-Tek.  One thing has been bothering me.  This has to do with the need for lower humidity while fruiting casings.  I'm used to using perlite and keeping the rH above 95%.

I don't want to have to use perlite until I see pins, then remove the perlite (too much work  ).  I have a 17 gallon sterilite container.....can I get by with just the moisture from the casings and possibly a few mistings?

Thanks in advance for the fla.....I mean help

be difficult one tiny tub of perlite should keep it pretty moist but thats relative to the tub of perlite to the growing container.

Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance. It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded.

Ive found that the more moisture and the more humidity even with my casings the better. I know cakes are suppose to have 95 to 100 humidity and casing around 90 But pins take off  :smile:when i have tons of moisture in there and they make big cute shroomies.

cover the casing with plastic wrap with a few wholes punched in it for air exchange . :smirk:
an air stone in some water might help too .

yeah casings usually keep up their own humidity but if you needed additional moisture , instead of putting your perlite on the floor of your fruting chamber put it in a small dish or something and place it in there. i dont see how it would be much more of a "hassle" because you already have to open your chamber to fan so why not reach down in there and take out the small dish of perlite?????

Hey Angry M,

Man dude, you gottah try "poon'in it"... this is only my second grow attempt (the first was successful to a certain degree) and I'm already spawning on horse poo... 2 of my 5 tuppewares are about 90% colonized, the others I didn't spawn til' like 3 days later so they're 3 days behind! But so far it's a fucking breeze! As long as you pastuerize that poo!:)

Peace

Agreed - having a little extra humidity is far preferable to not having enough. Too much and they might get a little fuzzy around the base. Too little and the caps get all scaly-looking and they don't grow so well.

I will take my casings dow to about 75% then bounce them around between 80-85%
seems to work pretty good for me.
