Suicide and Art
    #12595417 - 05/19/10 11:13 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

Words are inadequate.
Most suicides knew this.
We yearn to express ourselves. We yearn to be seen for what we really are. But we never can. We can never be known...
We are alone.

But do we really want to be understood? Is that what suicides really desired?..
I think not. Not exactly...

To be understood is to be dead, is to be a machine.
I think this is in fact what drives us mad, the fact that others think they do understand us. They talk about us... simplify us.

The deepest kind of understanding is an unspoken one...

I think genuine art is when an artist tries to express his self. To communicate what cannot be said with words.
I think that genuine art is like a distilled moment of existence.
Just as enigmatic, just as profound.
Disturbing, beautiful and unknowable.

Maybe genuine suicide is the same. The final expression of ones self.
The suicide is an instant, a moment of existence, captured in an act which is disturbing, unknowable, inexplicable, enigmatic...
It is a moment when a person is finally looked at just like a painting.
Just like art.

Suicide is an act where one finally feels in control.

You say "we" like  you are a suicide, which you are not. And so you really don't know. I'm sure they have about a zillion reasons behind the act.

how do you know?
but you are right and there certainly are many reasons.
I just meant 'we' and 'us' as in all humans, suicides included.
i may be wrong, but don't you think most humans want to express themselves in some form or another? Aren't we chiefly social beings?
i may be wrong.

I was just thinking about suicide and why people might do it. This was what i came up with...
I was just trying to say that maybe it is because we are so alone and are so incapable of being seen for what we are that suicide might be a final way of expressing ourselves and our desperate situation...
I don't know this post seems to have come off badly... it was just thoughts.

Words are not inadequate unless you have greater expectations of them than are justified.
