Jagger Calls For Legal Drugs Trial May 19, 2010 - wymg.com
Rolling Stones rocker Sir Mick Jagger is calling for government officials to legalise marijuana on a British island - to see if it prevents drug-related violence.
The singer, who was convicted of possessing narcotics in the 1960s, insists youngsters will always experiment with substances, despite the risk of negative side effects.
He is now urging officials to legalise cannabis on the Isle of Man - a British Crown dependency in the Irish Sea - for a limited time to test the consequences of an end to drug prohibition.
Jagger tells U.S. talk show host Larry King, "The whole question of legalising drugs is fraught... You usually try these things out in very small places... You know, like you try a new product out in a small kind of society or an island somewhere. And in England they always try out new mobile phones (cell phones) in (the) Isle of Man. They've got a captive society. So I said, you should try - you should try the legalisation of all drugs on the Isle of Man and see what happens.
"Human beings seem to have a propensity to want to take drugs in some form... It seems to be the propensity of human beings to want to use them... I think you have to take that as read, you know.
"But then what do you do when it affects so many people's lives, and not in a good way. And then also you get a lot of violence at both ends of the scope. So you get violence in some countries... which, like, we have in Mexico now, and you get violence at the other end of people trying to obtain drugs. That's the part that speaks to some sort of legalisation. Because that, you would hope, would help the violence from both ends of the supply line."

Thanks for looking out for the general well being of the people Jagger, but isn't that the job of the federal government? Too bad the institutions of the western countries are too worried about money via corruption / organized crime rather then the illusion people are tricked into thinking they are cared for and protected by our leaders.
Rational ideas backed up with logical support mickey.

you mean "But then what do you do IF it affects too many people's lives in a bad way."
Here's the thing. Legalize cannabis there. See how that goes, if it goes fine, then you can try legalizing another thing. See what the REAL PROBLEMS are.
Legalization won't happen, people are OBSESSED with banning things without thinking. They believe that by banning something, your MAGICALLY making the world a better place, but actually all you are doing is CREATING criminals. Every time a new thing is banned, thousands or millions of people instantly become criminals that were previously not a criminal, how is that beneficial? This is the same thing as making sex before your 60 years old illegal. Do you think this would raise the number of women raped? Of course it would. Would lots of people have sex before 60 years old anyway? of course they would. All they do is make more people criminals.
Come on people, we only live at most, an average of 100 years and some people die at birth, some die as a child, some as teens, some as young adults, people die randomly so why can't people enjoy their lives by doing what they want, as long as their not negatively effecting other people? Why can't someone go work at a job and work hard, then come home and eat some food and sit at home and smoke some drug? If people wanted to legalize theft and violence and murder, than that is a whole different thing. Cannabis will not make you run outside and start killing people and robbing people and so on. If you are a bad person, you will do bad things, regardless of ingesting a substance. People blame a substance, in hopes stupid people will say "well it wasn't their fault, they were on drugs, oh those horrible drugs" while someone sits, watching it on TV while doing that drug and is like "WTF is wrong with these people? That is a bad person, the drugs is an excuse and an invalid one."
