Inoculating Rye Berries w/ BRF Mycelia?

Hey all-
I have 6 qt jars filled 3/4 with rye berries that were soaked for 16 hours, strained, simmered for 45 mins, rinsed, strained again, then pressure cooked @ 15 psi for 90 mins. they've been cooling for a good five hours but i'm gonna let them go overnight. they're hanging out in the room my incubator is in (a sauna:p)
i'm wondering...i have some perfectly fine mycelial growth on some brf cakes, but i want to switch to rye, so could i potentially cut out the myc from the brf jar and drop it in to the rye jars to inoculate?
if so, give me some detailed instructions please
thanks!!!

Yeah, it'll work, but I would recommend making a glove box to do it in. And room temp. is fine for incubation, higher temps increase your chance of contam.

I would also Break the cake in half and take a sample out of the center of the cake and be very sterile about it.

what youre talking about is called a grain to grain transfer (g2g), if you want detailed instructions type g2g in the search box at top right of screen

would the same apply to a clump of mycelia from a cake that already produced a couple mushies? would that contaminate easier/not as easy, colonize faster/worse?

You could but it would increase contam chances... if anything you could (in a glove box) cut a piece out of the middle of a fresh shroom, put it in a ziplock bag, wait a few days for it to get fuzzy with myc, and then put into a grain jar... but that is essentially making a clone. I wouldn't take a piece off of a cake that was already fruiting though

I asked that very question a year ago. The best answer I got was to use the "Youngest" mycelium possible. You don't want weak (old) mycelium in its later flushes or spent mycelium.

Yeah, because it hasn't been introduced to outside contams yet. It would be much safer imo than a cake with weak myc from fruiting.

Carefully. Under sterile conditions. And do more than one.
