Im a first timer thats makimg my own incubator, i know people say no light during colonization!!!!! but my heat source in the incubator is a light bulb, i was wondering if i covered the light or covered the jars with a black bag if i would be ok or if i need to completely replace my heat source. Thanks again.

You don't need an incubator if your room temperature is over 65.

As long as the temperature in the area you are incubating in is room temp and not freezing then you won't need an incubator.

the mycelium that grows on the substrate will produce it's own heat as it eats, therefore rasing the internal temperature of the jars...room temp will be just fine.

True this. If you want your PFTek jars to colonize even faster, screw the brown rice flour and make wild bird seed flour instead, then mix the tek as usual. It is 100% better from what I've seen, cheaper and easier to obtain to boot. Only extra you need is a coffee grinder.

So long as your space is a comfortable room tempurature (68 to 76F). There is no need for an incubator. Any closet, shelf, cabinet or cupboard  will suffice. Even cardboard boxes stacked in a closet will work fine.

Sweet ok thanks i just thought that the optimal temp was 82-86, but if the mycelium does that on its own then awsome, i guess i'll use my incubator to hatch some eggs or something!!!

Optimal temp is 75-82 and take into account the heat produced by the mycelium as it colonizes as well as the insulation value of whatever it's in.  Larger substrates produce substantially more heat.

No need to be in the darkness either, in fact being exposed to normal lighting from day 1 has been proven to be beneficial.
