overlay?

Alright you experts...what do you think about this?

This is a cake made from 4 1qt rye jars with 1 inch of casing mix on top (verm, pete moss, lime)

I usually incubate my cakes at 86F for 7 days after making them. On the 7th day I transfer them to the fruiting chamber with 76F. Now in this case I forgot to transfer it on the 7th day, I did it on the 8th. Most of the soil mix was covered with mycelium, so I assumed its slight overlay. Now this pic here is 7 day since I transferred it. So 15 days since made.

These probably will not bear fruits...but well shall see...

The reason for such vegetative growth is because of your high temperatures and lengthy incubation. Next time incubate in room temperatures, and place it into fruiting after a few days, or when you start to see mycelium poke through the casing.
It still looks healthy and not matted. It will still fruit. You're not overlayed.

I will definitely take into consideration the comments i keep getting about high incubation temps. I will try it at 80.

But the way, the is only 1 cake that came out this way =)

The rest are good.

Here's an example of another cake out on the 7th day, so this one is 14 days old total. 7 days out in the fruiting chamber, just like the other. This is what its supposed to look like.

I don't think its overlay either.  Just strange sections of vegetative growth (?) or some of the gnarliest hyphal knots I've ever seen.  If it's just really aggressive myc that tub might explode here soon with some good FAE and light--fingers crossed.

Ditto about the temps.

Doesn't look contamed at this point--just fluffy ball weird.  Keep the pics coming.
