I like PF classic for PF Tek grows. But it really only works best with the PF tek and not bulk grows. If the PF tek is what your after its one that I like myself. You can get it from a Shroomery Sponsor like Sporeworks, and they a great to deal with. You could try looking at any of the cubes that Ralphsters or the any of the other Sponsors carry, there cubes are all Top Notch. Read up on some the Sponsors websites and they will tell you about each type and its background. Your on the right track with your research first. Good Luck

B+ are good despite the rumors...PE, CRS is the shit, Ecuador are nice little fatties, and GT do very well.

Amazon/Amazonian,South American,Cambodian,Brazil are all that I have grown back when I was doing PF Tek.
But the saying is...a cube is a cube is a cube...
As a new comer I would suggest a cube that is known for fast colonization times, extremely rhizomorphic mycelium...
Any of the above strains would be a good starter.

This is true.
But he can read a vendors description of a strain....but I also mentioned that a cube is a cube is a cube...some cubes though don't colonize as quickly as others.
The only other thing you could do is strain ISO by inoculating a petri dish of agar with MS and going through all the steps and then growing out each strain to find the ones that fruit and the ones that give shrooms with the qualities you are looking for....and as a noob he might not want to go through that just yet.

MS strain isolation on agar
I don't think you're going to want to mess with that though if you've never even grown mushrooms before.
Start out with the PF Tek..then either make casings with some PF cakes the second grow or moving on to grains and bulk growing, then look into strain isolation and cloning.

Are you suggesting that for his first time growing mushrooms, he tests isolates using the PF Tek?

No I don't think he was suggesting that...just saying that it is a great way to test out your isolates.
Think about it for a second...you have several isolates and you now need to grow them out to see if they are even a fruiting strain and to find which one (if any) contain the qualities you are looking for...I'd much rather test on a few 1/2 pint to 1 pint PF cakes then spend the money and make several monotubs only to find none of my isolates are what I am looking for...that would be a waste of money.
