Consqeuences of having too much humidity in the fruit chamber?
    #12586355 - 05/18/10 03:03 PM (14 years, 7 months ago)

I have two short questions:

1)  What are the negative consequences of having to much moisture/humidity in a fruit chamber?  Is it easier to get mold for example?

2)  How do you know if the level of humidity is just about right without buying a humidity meter?

1) there is no such a thing as too much humidity
2)Build a SG terrarium and use perlite (four inches)

1. You can get mold if the air is stagnant and there isn't constant air movement (fae).

2. Get a hygrometer that you can calibrate, they are under 10 bucks. Other than that it's a guessing game pretty much. You can do it without one, I have, but you won't know for sure without one.

There are no consequences of having to much humidity just make sure you always keep up with the Fresh Air

this.

Really high humidity usually accompanies stagnant air. A stagnant terrarium produces really tall shrooms with hollow, fuzzy stems. Also the caps aren't as meaty.

Plus if the cakes get wet, and stay wet bacteria can set in and cause them to rot and/or cause pins to abort.

High humidity + good fresh air exchange is the key.  Make sure you have proper lighting too.
