no i used a metal lid and always have done and have never had a problem with it (cue the flames!).
microwaves are reflected by metal objects in a microwave. small metal objects like pins, cds, tinfoil store the energy and release it in the form of sparks or arcs. if you have a large metal object (like a lid) and a substance that will absorb the microwaves (the agar) you wont have a problem. lots of microwaves have a turntable made of metal and have no problems. i did an indepth course on dielectic heating (microwaves) in university and they dispelled many myths on the first day.

I used my Karo/Malt agar LC mix, dropped some marbles in it,  put the lid on loosely and wrapped with plastic wrap. Nuked for about 5 minutes or until boiling. Marbles are optional.

I had a problem with the lid blowing off cause of the plastic wrap kept trapping the pressure so try to leave an airway for steam to escape. Once it starts to boil, it should be sterile. Tighten lid shortly after its finished nuking of course. Once cool, inoculate with spore solution or from agar under still air box.  Im sure you can make agar like this too. I think this is a good place to start. Just thought i'd share to u the fact that u can put pf jars with metal lids in the microwave. My lid is set up with tyvek filter and RTV healing point.  Perfect and more convenient than PCing. Thou some liquid will boil over and make the jar sticky.

An LC SHOULD be PC'ed 15psi/250F.... 20 minutes.
Sometimes microwaving will work, but it's hit & miss.

A magnetic stir bar is made of plastic coated metal.
Metal is unwise to microwave & you can kill a microwave doing it.

Sure you can, but is it wise.......NO.
