Lowering the temperature of a Martha
    #12579573 - 05/17/10 02:53 PM (14 years, 8 months ago)

I finished putting together a Martha very similar to Helltick's greenhouse tek.

I live in Florida and the room I'm using gets very warm. So far, the inside of this Martha is averaging 85 degrees(F).

The people I live with know what I'm doing and approve as long as I keep it contained in the one specific room. Now here's the problem: this room is not as affected by the House's AC as other rooms so I can't adjust the AC to help lower the temperature without freezing the rest of the house. I also can't move the Martha to another room.

Simply put, does anyone know of a way I can lower the temp of my Martha without having to use the AC?

Years back I had the same issue in a room.
Room had a window, I installed an inexpensive AC window unit.
Cheaper route is a small window unit swamp cooler.
Swamp cooler is far less expensive to run than AC.

Sorry, not much help, but cooling without an AC or swamp cooler is not very practical.

If the room is large enough, you can look into purchasing a portable air conditioning unit. They can range anywhere from $60ish to over $300 though. Not very practical, I know, but it would be effective. I think there are "personal air conditioners" you can buy too, but I don't know how effective they'd be.

The downside is they tend to dry out the surrounding air, so it may or may not affect your rH level inside the GH.

Here.

I'd buy the cheapest window air unit you can find and use it on a low setting.
Like this or this.

I doubt a swamp cooler will do much good for you in florida, as they don't work very well in high humidity.

It seems like overkill but if I can't figure out something else, I'll probably buy something cheap and test that out.

I guess my next question would be, how much will my grows be affected? I know different species like different temps, but let me ask specifically for cubensis? I put in a small block of oyster just to experiment.

My bad...LOL

You are right.
I live in an ARID climate.
Swamp cooler here, in summer will lower temps 12 to 18 degrees.
Wasn't thinking about the RH in Florida.
