ok so i have 4 3lb bags of rye grain. 2 have b+ spores and two have golden teacher inoculated and are currently spawning. so my question is how big of a bin do i need to use a monorub tek with 12lbs of spawn. and can to golden teachers and 'B' be spawned together in the same bin. (monsters monotub is what I'm thinkingof doing) and advisers gladly accepted, thank you for your time

If you mix em you will get a shitty flush. You want to get another bin cuz you need an FC for each. I personally like using 50/50 spawn/poo so just use equal parts spawn to poo, mix well and cover with some foil or wax paper on the surface for 5 days, then put in the FC...or if using a monotub, start you 12 hrs of light after 5 days....

Think volume, not weight. Figure out how much each tub will hold with about a 4" sub thickness, and don't forget to leave room for vermiculite, gypsum, and spawn. Just put your sub material in the tub dry, keeping track of how much you've put in there. You only have to do it once, and write it down.

3 pound of rye is about a medium size spawn bag filled up maybe 2/3 full?
I'd do 2 monotubs, 1 B+ and 1 GT. That's a good bit of spawn so I'm thinking any tub in the range of 50-70 quarts will do for you.
Or perhaps do 4 smaller tubs. Target sells really nice clear tubs, with a gasket in the lid. They are intended as document storage tubs. They're clear with some yellow trim. Feelfunny recommended them to me. I copied his hole setup exactly.

You have about 16 quarts of spawn. if you plan on doing 1:1 ratio thats 32 quarts of substrate, 1:2 is 48 quarts of substrate.
48 quarts is 2772 cubic inches. if you want the substrate 4 inches deep then first divide 2772 by 4 which = 693.
Now you can figure out length and width. lets say you want a container thats 36 inches long (3 ft or ~1m). divide 693 by 24 which = 19.25.
so you'd need a tub thats 36" by 19.25" to have a spawn thats 4 inches deep with a 1:2 ratio. You can mess with the numbers to meet your needs, but pay attention to surface area and not volume of the container because thats whats important.
and i dont think its bad to mix different kinds of cubes. (heres a post confirming that http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/5545843#5545843)

I just pulled out a scale and found a quart of spawn minus the jar, filled 2/3 full, weighs just about 1 pound. That would be 12 quarts.
So that would be 2 tubs with 6 qts of spawn each, so that's not enough to do 2 very large tubs. So 2 medium sized tubs. Maybe 2 10 gallon tubs?
I recommend against combining the spawn. The 2 commercial strains could fruit at different rates. Besides, why buy 2 diff strains if you just gonna mix em up?
