Drying and Contamination of Perlite

I noticed my humidity levels were going down recently and I found that my perlite was beginning to dry out. I also figured that it being in there for a while would invite contams, seeing as how the h2o2 probably dried up a while ago. I decided to use a bleach mixture this time to avoid the problem with the h2o2 evaporating.
How often do you guys change your perlite? I mean does there come a time where the perlite should be thrown away or can you just rinse it and bleach it?

Hmmmm.....I don't think you'd wanna get bleach anywhere near your cakes. If I'm in the midst of a grow, I just add more h20 and h202. Bleach is better for cleaning after completing an entire grow.... I always change my perlite after a grow, but I've yet to use bleach for anything related to mushroom cultivation. I love my h202.

I've had 4 flushes on the same perlite and I've had no problems. I just douse it with lots of H2O2 when I mist. I mist with a solution of H2O2 and H2O.

doesn't sound like a problem if your cake is sitting on some sort of plate so it doesn't touch the perlite. Don't make the solution too strong though.

I make little tin foil coasters for the cakes to sit on, and the casings are in the containers.
I think I used something like a 1:20 ratio of bleach to water.

I use bleach only in my perlite (never could figure out why you'd use h2o2 as that is just h2o by the end of the day). I must add that i am NOT growing little cakes direclty above the perlite tho. more like casings on shelves in a plastic "tent" with perlite at the bottom in a tub.

I bake the perlite once a month at 250F for about 2 hours or until its dry. Works Great, if you dont mind the mess. Usually takes me about 10min to scoop the shit out of the teranium and get it in the oven.

I cut a 2.5 gallon drinking water container in half and put my perlite in that. It makes for easy cleaning, and fits nicely into my terrarium.
