Question; Cow field etiquette
    #12572475 - 05/16/10 11:15 AM (13 years, 10 months ago)

Hello,

Going for my 1st hunt in some cow fields in Southern Tas I've picked out.

Any tips form regulars in avoiding/dealing with various situations and overall preparedness?

I remember reading that if a bull charges you and you're not near a fence you should stay still and toss something to one of you're sides once the bull is somewhat close, it will follow said object.

Wear one of those bright orange things construction workers wear..

Make's you look like your doing something professional.

If a fields owner comes out to see what your doing tell him your picking species of fungi for a mycology experiment.

Also state that some of the fungi your collecting could be bad for his cattle and that your helping him out.

Don't say things like this. It just spreads misinformation and mycophobia.

This is much better, IMO.

Why don't you try asking for permission to go into the field first?
It might save your ass from getting peppered with rock salt.

Well that's what I'm asking about. What other people do.

+ I'm not in the US of A guncountry.

Tell them your a Mycology student or teacher(depending on you age) and your working on a project for school.
You need samples for class. Offer them some cash for access to the field.
Make sure you look and act appropriately.
I thought you were in southern T.X. sorry.
