Hey guys
my cakes are coming along great and i'm so grateful to the community here for providing a one-stop source for learning all facets of this amazing process.
i have a shotgun set up, and was interested in learning how to set up a bulk tray that utilizes verm, coffee grounds, and whatever else that is neccessary. (pasteurizing..)
if someone could link me to a complete guide, or enlighten me here, that would be wonderful.

I use this usually. Just substitute the colonized rye with your cakes. I usually add gypsum and used coffee but it's still the same prep.

Yeah, it's basically the same as breaking up a fully colonized grain jar. Just get them out of the jars and use gloves or your (clean) hands and crumble it them mix it with the sub. Pretty easy, just be clean.

gotcha, thanks:)
i've heard good things about incorporating gypsum, so, since the guide you provided doesn't include that step, can you fill me in on what i should do with it?

oh! and since that uses a monotub, do you know a good thread that shows how to prepare one? (i sadly only have a shotgun..)
...or can i just move the substrate into trays after colonization and stick them in the shotgun?

You could do trays in a shotgun or a monotub. They are pretty easy and here is a good beginner thread. Gypsum can be added with everything before you add the water, usually use about 10% of your sub (so if you use a full brick of coir its about a qt).

That's a bunch of trays that are in a green house. Green houses are definitely the way to go but if you don't have the money or space for one then you can put trays in a shotgun. Or, for better biological efficiency, put them into trays like that and once they are fully colonized take them out of the trays and fruit them in a shotgun on foil.

you mean, just dump the tray's contents out into the FC?
oh, and as long as the jars fully colonize without contams, the trays have as high a chance of success as using a cake right? or no?

Well no. Once the sub and your spawn fully colonize it is a solid mycelium network. If you take it out of the tray it will be a solid block and you can put it on foil inside of the shotgun. Like this... but that's just an example of good B.E. because it fruits from more than just the top.

wow, taking the colonized sub out of the tray, and laying on tinfoil is actually a great idea.

Ah, that explains it. Typical know-it-all noob. We get a few thousand just like you register here every year. They try a few grows, fail miserably and then after a few months or one bad trip, go back to sniffing glue, never to be seen again.
We have a basic pf tek that's idiot proof enough for noobs to get fucked up with their friends.
Mycologists on the other hand grow for the love of growing. They want to experiment with various species, substrates, and fruiting environments. They'll move on to isolate strains, attempt hybridization, and in general treat cultivation as an artform, rather than a chore that must be performed as a means to an end. They'll work twice as hard for a ten percent gain, just for the love of perfection. These are the ones who will isolate strains, not the dumb fucks who treat mushrooms as a drug, or even worse, a pathogen, as if mushrooms cause disease.

Damion505 Elementery coir tek Is pretty much the starting point to bulk but each to their own I say.

would that coir method work with less spawn, say like 3 qts?

You can use however much spawn you want... I usually do around a 1:4 ratio but going past that can take longer and lead to possible contamination, it's whatever you want.
