Arran (Scotland) last week

So a buddy and me went up northwest to Scotland to see something of the isle of Arran. We spent 5 days on the island, hiking and mostly camping. I wanted to get some decent pics, but I also wanted to keep my backpack as light as possible, so I decided to bring my trusty canon 20d with only a plastic-built 50mm lens and some batteries + memory cards. Anyway, we had a really great time on this island; it is really Scotland in miniature. It's got all the landscapes of Scotland literally in walking distance of each other.
So here are the pics: Up Goat Fell:

Lots of rocky outcrops:

Look down on the Saddle on the left. That's where we're going.

Hiker's paradise:

Pretty vast landscapes for a relatively small island:

Down to the Saddle:

This is a bit of a challenge descent carrying a 45 lb rucksack:

Done for the day, camp in the valley:

A final look on Goat Fell:

Down to the coast:

Cook some limpets:

Head down south a bit for some essential shopping (we didn't even end up having to eat nettles, although we wouldn't have been too unhappy about it):

Bake some bread for tomorrow:

The rugged north coast of the island:

Lunch (this was _really_ good ):

Going up a bit to cross over the hill:

Down to Lochranza:

The more luscious southern half of the island:

Walking sticks turned out to be very handy for getting around the island on foot:

Some heavy weather rolling over the hills; we actually had very good weather on this trip. Lots of sun, a bit of wind, sometimes a bit cloudy and never too warm. Ideal for hiking.

We also stomped around Edinburgh for a bit on our way back:

Hope you enjoyed the pics. We sure did enjoy our trip

Yeah, I was really surprised at how alpine the place is. It's not even that high, only about 2700ft at the highest point, but still, it felt very much like Switzerland at times.

I saw dozens and dozens of fields that looked suitable for liberty caps. I suppose it's a magical island as well.

Tracking rule #1: Transfer Whisky to plastic Spa bottle.
We should meet with a few NL Shroomerites and do some hiking next autumn/end of summer (when I'm back home), you can learn me some mush hunting. Would be great.
