close encounter, Pressure cooker nearly run dry!

So I was doing some pressure cooking today in my Hawkins big boy (aluminum), had some quart jar lids on the base, thinnish scrunched up piece of foil roughly the size of the diameter / circumference of the base of the PC and then my rack (thin one that came with it) on top, had probably about an inch and a half of water in there, it was on for about an hour and 10 minuets, on a medium to high heat, steam wasn't screaming out crazy, nice rock from the valve...
opened it up a few hours later, there were literally a table spoon or two of water left in there, there was a bit of condensation and the foil on the base had a bit of water trapped in there.
There was a strange smell that came out when I opened it, the foil had discolored slightly in areas and there was a very small (fine trace) amount of mineral deposit in the bottom of the PC and on the base of the jar lids, whitish looking stuff.
Is my pressure cooker all right?
no visible damage to the unit, still looks good.
thoughts?
cheers

Inspect the gasket and safety devices. If they look good, I would not worry about using the pressure cooker.

If it's warped also dont use it. I ran a small cheap one dry and the bottom domed out. It wouldnt sit still on a flat surface. Dont use it if theres any signs of warping, stresses in the aluminium could cause it to burst when under pressure.

If there was water left inside, it's probably ok. But inspect carefully.

You don't want the valve to constantly rock. Once it starts rocking, you're supposed to turn the stove down to the lowest setting that will maintain 15 psi without rocking. Any time the weigh lifts off to vent steam, water is lost. With proper attention to stove setting, you can run two to three hours on an inch and a half of water.
The residue is just minerals from your water. Water that turns to steam and evaporates is distilled water, thus the minerals are left behind. RR
