Is a filter patch necessary for LC?
    #12562249 - 05/14/10 02:29 PM (14 years, 8 months ago)

LC teks seem to be the only ones consistently demanding some sort of filter patch in the lid for gas exchange. Unlike BRF or PF Tek.

Can't I just leave the lid on loose for gas exchange like in those?
It seems things would be much simpler!

You dont have to have GE, just leave some air in the jar IE dont fill it up. about half way and you probably should be ok from what I've read. I'm still a noob though dont go on what I say alone.

I wouldnt leave the lid loose. The closest that I would get to that is this tek.

You could always try it for yourself, and report back with your results.

Ohhh.... now I finally understand what a filter patch is for! It's for equalizing pressure when sucking out from the silicone hole! Haha, makes sense now.

An LC will stall without some provision for gas exchange.
A filter also allows you to asperate LC out of a jar, without creating a vaccum inside the jar.
