OK here goes.. i have found a bag of composted cow manure, and need to pasteurize it, i've read on the topic of : Fill pillow case, submerge in water, keep at 170. F for 1.5 hours and then drain and let cool.... My question is, could i fill up a few quart size mason jars with it, submerge them in water and heat up to 170 for , say 2 hrs, then remove from pot, let cool and use! The moisture content is just perfect in the bag as is, and it would keep all the juices intact, instead of washing it all away ---------------------------------------- Ok.. here goes:: 1- Cleaned 3 quart jars and 1 more ( not sure of size, but bigger than pint ) 2- Opened " Composted Cow Manure " bag, and wow, nice even fluffy no chunks, black dirt, 3- Added a few handfuls of Vermiculite and a bit of perlite to a bucket with measured amount of compost. 4- Used spray bottle to moisten poop/verm/perlite and mixed with spoon, until almost muddy, but not dripping at all. 5- Loaded jars with spoon, not packed 6- Used white plastic lids, not too tight so minor steam can escape.( was afraid they would blow the fuck up!!!) 6- loaded them in big oven pot, filled to threads of botles with hot water and placed on stove 7- Temps being kept at 160 to 180f for 2hrs. I shake the jars with oven mits every hour or so to mix it up . Will let cool and spawn with 1/3 straw 1/3 wbs and 1/3 poop. and hoping for the best! Any tips from the pros? --------------------------------------- Update: Well i worked late last night, i cooled down the jars in the back porch, and once cooled off, made 3 bins, 1- with 2 pints of grain, 2 quarts of poop, and a few handfulls of straw*( 1 to 2 quart aprox of straw.. ) 2- with 1 pint of grain, 1 quart of poop....... 3- same as no.2 No.1 is twice as thick a bed. and the other 2 are half as thick .. of course.. i am curious to find out ( if they ever fruit that is ) wich one will produce the most!! will keep you all posted!! see y'all!~ YI. ...

So.. no one ever try this before!!???
okay then, i'll report later with how it went!

Ok.. here goes::
1- Cleaned 3 quart jars and 1 more ( not sure of size, but bigger than pint ) 2- Opened " Composted Cow Manure " bag, and wow, nice even fluffy no chunks, black dirt, 3- Added a few handfuls of Vermiculite and a bit of perlite to a bucket with measured amount of compost.

Update:
Well i worked late last night, i cooled down the jars in the back porch, and once cooled off, made 3 bins,

Couldn't one just take some poo put it in u'r jars and pressure cook it. Shake it up. Once cooled inject your spores? I may have to try this myself.

with the vermiculite and perlite added, it was very shakeble, i'm sure it would work, good idea!
I chose to do the 170 degree thing because i wanted to keep the benefitial bacteria going, I was going to try PC'ing the poop to spawn with, but i assume i would have to do the same with the straw as bacteria from the straw would infect the sterile poop...???No? maybe?
So far so good, colonization has started again and look good.
I have the 2 gal rubbermaid bins with their lids on in the dark , hopefully in about a week, i can open them up and fruit them!!

Yeah, i had the same problem, i would have had a hard time eating potatoes out of the pot i used if it were not for the jar idea!! hahaha
The jars, well, i just rinsed them out real good and placed them in the dish washer with the bottom tray removed and placed the top tray on the bottom of the washer, used LOTS of soap, and put the drying cycle on, Lots of heat in that mofo.. so i can use the jars for WBS tonight!!

I have not tryed ithat yet but I have saved the water from pasteurize horse poop and use it instead of water. In my Rye jars and BRF jars and it seems to colonize faster then with just water. I was going to try something like the poop jars too. IN my PC I don't think the mushies care if the poop is pasteurize or PC.

No, the mushrooms don't care whether the dung is pasteurized or sterilized, but everything else does. If you put it in the PC, you'll kill all beneficial bacteria. This will allow anything to colonize it, not just cubensis mycelium.

I checked on it this morning and it's growing much more quickly with strands and even growing on spots off of the sides of the container .. I've never seen this happen with straw before!!!
I can't wait for this sucker to start pinning!!!!

ok.. the 2 pint bin.. they were not pins.. no pins yet.. but i'm hopefull as they are not contaminated yet!! ( crosses fingers )
------------
I made another attempt at the jars last night but with a slightly different appraoch..
Instead of mixing my verm and poop in a bucket to adjust the water content. I simply filled 1 quart jars with poop and verm, filled them with water, put on lid tight, and away we go!
Benefits to this::
1- NO SMELL WHAT SO EVER!! 2- They do not float and bob around in the water, they sink! 3- I can use the same oven pot as i use to pasteurize straw. 4- I can manually squeeze out the water by hand, 5- poop is pasteurized in 1 quart of water instead of a potfull( less wash away)
I have let it cool overnight, will create my casing tonight!!
see ya!
