A little concerned.
    #12554362 - 05/13/10 09:52 AM (14 years, 8 months ago)

May 13th
So on May 6th i knocked up about 16 jars with B+ syringes.
So far i have seen no noticeable growth. Only thing i have noticed is a slight dis coloration of the jars. It is lighter mixture with tan-ish spots, I am not sure if they are growing I'm marking one right now but it is concerning me. Any idea what this could be?
Or is it just me and my weed? Thanks for replys.

Update - May 15th

NONE of the jars i knocked up are showing ANY sign of growth, Only thing that is showing up is this dis coloration. Which i am now thinking is the substrate drying up or some sort of mold growing. Either way i am starting over all my 1/2pint jars.
I knocked these babies up from a pint jar with sterilized water and spores in it, could this maybe be why it did not work? Any advice or comments will be appreciated.

It does not smell like bananas, The syringe was from on of my own spore prints. It still has the over powering smell of vermiculite in the jars and nothing else really.

Any kind of discoloration that isn't mycelium white is troublesome, especially if there's no mycelium there to begin with.  Probably some kind of bacteria or mold.  Would chuck it.

I would love to purchase a pressure cooker, currently saving my change for one.
I think i'm going to let them sit for maybe a few more days, If i see no Myc growth after a two weeks then it is just bad, I marked several of my jars so i'll see if its growing or not. (Coloration)

Dunno, let it sit. Anything other than healthy white mycelium growth is bad though to my knowledge.

Could be aspergillus flavus. Flavus is the yellow color of that particular variety, but it's usually found on grain. It could also be sepedonium, but that sticks to soil and compost, mostly. Wish I could tell you for sure, but the pics are hard to make out. You would know better than any of us which one it looks like. Do some digging and find some pics on the net of these molds and compare. GOOD LUCK, BROTHER!!! ........hope that helped a little.:peace:

BRF or PF Tek is totally armature. I couldn't even do the PF Tek with success. Either buy grain bags from a vendor or buy a pressure cooker. I sware PF tek is a waste of time.

But you made your own syringe and it looks like a fail. You aren't going to have any success at your age. Try again in 4 years.

Ah, that explains it.  Typical know-it-all noob.  We get a few thousand just like you register here every year.  They try a few grows, fail miserably and then after a few months or one bad trip, go back to sniffing glue, never to be seen again.

We have a basic pf tek that's idiot proof enough for noobs to get fucked up with their friends.

Mycologists on the other hand grow for the love of growing.  They want to experiment with various species, substrates, and fruiting environments. They'll move on to isolate strains, attempt hybridization, and in general treat cultivation as an artform, rather than a chore that must be performed as a means to an end.  They'll work twice as hard for a ten percent gain, just for the love of perfection.  These are the ones who will isolate strains, not the dumb fucks who treat mushrooms as a drug, or even worse, a pathogen, as if mushrooms cause disease.

OP: i'd try again with a vendor purchased syringe.
remember to follow the pf tek exactly how it is written, too.

Looks like a yeast contamination. Yeast commonly contaminates incorrectly prepared inoculum. By the looks of it, it's shooting down your jars like a line of inoculum, which makes me believe it's yeast... not to mention the yellow coloration.

I do not know what put you on such a high horse, but i have a feeling that i should let you know you are wrong. I do not know what this success at your age bullshit is and i don't care to know.
The BRF tek isn't a waste of time, there is a such thing as circumstance and sometimes having tubs after tub of substrate isn't either viable or available.
Brf tek = anyone can grow mushrooms, unless your a complete idiot. but it is okay if you have never had any success with it, because i have  You have to start somewhere.

I think i will try again with the spore print i made, plus a few other ones i got for free. Trades and what not. I think this may be because of a few mistakes i made during the process.
I am re-making the jars today and knocking them up tomorrow. Thanks for the help and advice everyone. :tongue2:

...wow, next time could you be a little less helpful please?

You're right about the PF tek being amateur- it's intended to be a simple, effective, low-cost method for people just getting started- amateurs, in other words. If you think you can't get bomb-ass results from the PF tek check out Fahtster's double-stacking method:

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/7712073#7712073

Given the content of your post it doesn't surprise me you had no success with the PF.
