The ins and outs of playing in a band:I don't want to play Bob Dylan and the like...

Not really a band as such,three/four guitar players and sometimes a banjo player playing in the pub every now and again. It's relaxed,no pressure.
But we've a gig(possibly a series of,paid too) where we can pick the date with just three guitarists which overall is better because four guitarists with three strumming the same thing and one playing lead is crowded to say the least.
I told one player that I didn't want to play because I didn't/don't feel ready. And I told him I won't be anywhere near ready for at least six months and I don't like being rushed into things when I don't feel comfortable. He said we can't keep putting off the gig and I said whatever but you know how I feel.
My main thing that is doing my head in is that it's singer-songwriter songs i.e. Bob Dylan,Jim Croce etc.
I feel guilty because I don't want to play these songs and I don't know what to say to them. I can't just tell them I don't want to go further with them, you know?
I want to play some extended blues jams with bongo drums and things, not ALL pub friendly hits.
Can you see where I'm coming from? Been in a similar situation?

You gotta know what you want. If you will be happier doing something else then you just gotta move on. However if this is the only real gig youll be able to score for a while, you might want to hold off and wait until you have something lined up rather than just hopes.

from my known ex. in bands is that your not really a band if everyone not agreeing on the music- A band should have a understanding of everyone's likes and dislikes its really like a family you have to take care of each other and to do that you have to understand each other. I can see what your saying I have been in this situation myself the best thing to do is make it fair to everyone figure out how long you are doing the gig for or how many songs your aloud to play then just split it down the middle Do some of dylans stuff Do some of your stuff Some of His stuff and so on.... so everyone gets to play a little bit of what they want.
Also another thing about being ready and not being ready theres no real time in music its a flow of ever lasting energy that you mend to your own feet and then out the fingers, voice, etc that energy is always ready for you so you must be ready for it just get up on stage and play away play like tomorrow is never gonna come ...Do you think the beatles where ready??? Jesus christ if they where think of what there music be like.... Just go with the Flow Bro.
Oh and also if your worried about making mistakes for songs your not sure of always remember if you don't make it noticeable the crowd won't notice it...Unless of course there's some 80+year virtuoso Classical 6 Year 12 string master gods of the gods guitar player sitting in front row center looking right at you...I woudn't worry about it much.

Okay,thanks for the imput^^^.
Well I should say that they have been playing small pub sessions together for a while. But they'd never played with a lead guitarist, always strumming chords and had/have their own repatoire of songs.
Playing all the same chords but in different order kind of makes all the songs sound similar to an extent. It seems to be more about the singing to them but it's not to me but that's what they're into. I joined them
I don't know what to do really.
