Morning Glory Wine
    #367033 - 08/05/01 01:31 AM (22 years, 7 months ago)

MORNING GLORY WINE
Q. Is there anything else you can do with morning glories?
A. The flowers of the morning glory may be steeped in water for a week or two to produce a mildly alcoholic wine with a distinctively pleasant flavor and very mild psychedelic effect, on the order of hemp. Once again herbs and/or honey can be added to good effect.

I just found this on Erowid. Not many details were given. Has anyone experimented with this?
cheers

nice skull up there
ive tried doing that... years ago.
i cant remember in details (i didnt know no more details than you, just had nothing to do at all...), all i know is that i put a lot of flowers in water (maybe simple tap water or maybe boiled tap water... cant remember) and i just waited like it said, a few weeks. before opening, i noticed all the flowers were bruised and everything, it didnt look any nice. but when i tasted it, it was good! kind of sweet... a real nice to drink thing, but not really stoning. maybe i steeped to little time, who knows? maybe putting some ground seeds can help with the stoning part... ;)

i think you should put a LOT of fresh flowers with lots of polen and stuff... nice looking flowers! you can try your ways but i think once closed it should not be opened before well aged...

A very long time. I wouldn't worry about it.

do you have any experience extracting LSA
?

I have been considering this:

grind seeds, soak seed powder in water for a long while, drain water from pulp using coffee filters, evaporate water until only sludge remains, place sludge into alcohol and drink...

this is adapted from a method available at erowid here:

Quote:

An alternative processing method occured to me since writing the FAQ in light of the apparent current difficulty in obtaining petroleum ether:
Proceed with a water extraction from the seed meal: Soak the meal in water and then filter off the water with a coffee filter, discarding the filter and solid matter, keeping the water.
Evaporate all the water until only a brown sludge remains. Do this maintaining the lowest possible temperature since lysergic compounds break down at relatively low temperatures. If you have access to a vacuum pump, use it. If you can perform this processing 5-10,000 feet above sea level or higher, do so. Otherwise, try blowing a fan across a flat pan such as a cookie sheet or pizza pan.
When only sludge remains, redissolve it in alcohol, perform any shamanic rituals desired with this material, then filter again and drink.
This process will preserve the "instant high" effect of the process described in the FAQ without incurring the "fish-eye" toxic side-effect.

Does this seem like a good technique? ANY advice would be appreciated

if you want to avoid getting sick, you should first wash the ground seeds in Naptha, then do your water or alcohol extraction.

I am unfamilliar with extractions, is naptha toxic? Does it evaporate completely, like iso alcohol does?

yes. it is a verry low grade refinement and has a lot of nasties in it that are residual after evaporation. many people still use it because they figure that if it doesn't kill them or render them retarded right away it's safe to use.

i have made morning Glory wine before several times. first i will clarify, it is more of a tea than a wine. it does not have much sugar in it and , hence, does not ferment.
my experience does not lend toward the claims of any psycadellic effect. it does seem to have calming effects but they are minor if not only placebo. it does usualy taste good, but i have noticed that sometimes it is quite salty. i don't know why this is.
i have made the [wine/tea] with manay varienties of Violacea/Tricolor including pearly gates, the [flying saucer/bicolor], and two (clearly different) varieties labled and sold as Heavenly Blues. i mean to try with Ololiuqui and HBWR.

If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
