Presto 23 quart pressure cooker...

I just recived my Presto 23 quart pressure cooker and though I havent used it yet seem to think its going to be a great cooker. However! On the box it says you can fit 20 pint jars but no matter how many times I try to fit these suposid 20 jars I can only fit 18. This may seem a bit OCD but I have already done all the calculations and I need exactly 40 jars. I refuse to pressure cook 4 bloody jars in a 23 quart PC, can someone please help me fit all 20? Thanks everyone!

Maybe turn some of them on their sides?

If you absolutely cannot fit those last two jars, just make more jars on the last run so you don't feel like you're wasting time, they don't have to be pints of whatever spawn you're using either, try some quarts, or some half pint PF cakes, or some half pints 1/4 full of grain to use for grain LC. (I usually end up doing the latter two if I ever don't fill my PC)
More jars can't hurt, in case one or two jars fail for some reason you'll just have backups if you make extras.

You lazy bastard. First of all whyyyyy are you using pint jars when there are quart jars...Must be making cakes...pfff.... Theres no way you have to have 40 jars. You just want 40 jars. Don't mix up your wants and needs. And on top of that you're saying you aren't willing to do what it takes to get what you want? What? If you haven't removed the lifter from the bottom or tried laying the top few jars on their sides, which isn't necessarily recommended, then you are screwed.
This post is all sorts of wrong.
By the way, enjoy your new presto, I got the same one. Its sweet isn't it.

Lazy bastard? hahah You clearly have a math learning disability because if you didnt you would see how incredibly asinine that statement was camplo. If you were to use Quart jars you would actually be doing MORE work than if you used pint jars. Let me break it down for you.
23 quart presto fits at maximum, 7 quart jars. 1 quart=946.35 cubic centimeters 946.35 x 7 =6624.45 cubic centimeters
whereas
23 quart presto fits at maximum, 20 pint jars 1 pint = 473.176 cubic centimeters 473.176 x 20 = 9463.52 cubic centimeters
now camplo if you grab a calculator and subtract 6624.45 from 9463.52 your left with 2839.07 cubic centimeters or 3.00001178 quarts. Thats 3 quarts LESS spawn per full pressure cooker load. Next time I want completely false information from a pretentious asshole Ill be sure to PM you.
Look im just looking for some good friendly information, there is no need to call people lasy bastards nor is there any reason to talk down to people. The shroomery wasnt founded on that, it was founded on friendly exchanges of advise and information.

use that extra space in the second run to experiment. eg, try a few jars with coffee, a few with gypsum, or to compare your results between grain, wbs, and brf.

I love my 23 quart cooker. Yes it only holds 7 quart jars, but it holds a lot of rye when you use bags.
If you continue on in this hobby, you will probably move away from these pint jars, so I wouldn't sweat the fact that the other 2 don't fit.
It is a quality piece of equipment.

When I use bags I can fit 4 bags @ 5 quarts a piece.

One thing you want to be sure of when and if you do this is to position the bags as to not be in the way of the inter locking assembly and vent pipe.

Almost forgot. Get as much air out of bags before you and as you seal them.

You can fit 10 quart jars in the 23 quart PC.Seven standing up,and three on their sides ontop of the others.
If you fill 10 one quart jars 3/4 of the way that that is = to 7.5 quarts. If you fill 20 pint jars 3/4 of the way that is = to 15 pints = to 7.5 quarts.....so it's the same amount of work either way.
We don't fill grain jars 100% of the way, only 2/3 to 3/4 of the way.Even PF jars aren't filled all the way, there is a layer of verm at the top of the jar....so your math, while on one hand is right...is wrong because of the jars not being filled 100% of the way.

Wow, Thanks that really is some great advice. I think I will try my hand at jars for a bit and then when I feel myself ready, graduate to bags. Besides I can allways modify my old jars and jar lids to be LC jars... or so thats the plan anyway

I have the same PC and I run 10 qt jars at a time with the top three on their sides=works great. Despite the numbers I think it would be more efficient to run your PC twice with qt jars than fill all those pint jars up--just me tho. That's a lot more filling time, shaking time, washing lids time, etc.
Anyway, enjoy the new PC.

You can swap in one half gallon jar in the 10-qt configuration, it's like a bonus quart.

Thanks T. Is colonization time quite a bit slower in the halfer? I've never used em. I'm not sure I'd want 9 colonized qt jars and one half colonized halfer to wait on.
