Is this unusual for the veil to be broken at such an early stage? It seems to be happening on a few of the babies. Thoughts?

Not aborts, just some almost-normal looking mutants. I've gotten lots of those, and they is tasty

hmm I was searching through the threads, most of them old so no pics to compare, and a few mentioned that it could be due to low humidity. My FC will only keep 80% max. Do you still think that they are mutants? If so should I pick them now or let them develop further?

I'd say try to up the humidity, but definitely let them keep growing. I don't know how yours will be, but in my experiences they've grown to be normal size. Some of the ones I had looked exactly like that, with the early broken veil.

They're not aborts or mutants. They're just small fruits, which happens sometimes.

If that is so do you think it was due to genetics or the environment? Should I let them grow longer or will they just take the nutrients from the cake?
The cake still feels pretty moist and today I injected about 8cc of distilled water in it with a sterilized syringe just in case.

Your cake looked plenty moist from that picture. I didn't see a large enough pin set for you to need to add more water. Mostly it's the varying genetics of multispore inoculations that cause varying fruit sizes, but in your case it may have been due to over-watering.

Hmm well that cake has been in the FC for nearly two weeks. I may have birthed it too early after reading a bit. I birthed it about 2 days after full colonization. I have been misting and fanning 4-6 times a day. Today is the first time I injected it with water.

It's not PE. Just crappy genetics.

Hmm well that's too bad if that's the case. Hopefully my second flush will turn out better.

Well it does seem to be getting longer, also the veil on the mushroom to the right has broken...

Wonder if it will continue to grow this way or if they're duds?

I had a big fatty cake that grew a ton of those 3 or 4 flushes in when it was getting cashed. The prior flushes were great so it lead me to believe that it had more to do with the environment factors rather than genetics. I had moved on to other projects and just sorta left this tub to do whatever it was going to do until it kicked the bucket. It was pretty dry at this point as I never dunked it and stopped misting. Many of them stopped growing when they looked like the fatty in the pic above and started to rot pretty quick. I'd pic em kind o early and make sure your environment is tip top.
Hope it works out for you!

Unfortunately this is the first flush. Hope these grow larger or recede during the second flush!!

First flush, huh? Well, make sure all you environmental factors are in order and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. If the ambient factors are good to go and this is the first flush maybe it really is a genetic phenomenon. Those look awfully familiar to me tho.
Best of luck.
