Simple Agar recipe please? 1

I wasnt sure if this belonged here or in the Advanced forum, but I dont think it is too advanced anyway.
I obtained a few petri dishes that already had some type of material in them and now I would like to reuse them but I dont have a recipe for pouring my own plates.
My question is this:
Does anyone have a "homegrown" type recipe for my plates that doesnt require a romp all over the state tracking down ingredients? I really want to make this easy on myself, and I would rather not have to order any ingredients. Plus, living in the middle of nowhere makes it a little difficult to obtain "uncommon" ingredients.

It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. Ok...the simpleest recipe to ever come along....no one believes it works but it does
1. 3-4 packages of UNFLAVORED gelatin...store brands are fine 2. 1 1/2 cups cold water in a sauce pot 3 . 1 beef boullion cube...lower in salt
bring water to a rolling boil, ROLLING boil crush boullion cube and stir into water reduce heat and stir in gelatin with a fork 1 pkg at a time remove from heat and allow it to cool for about 15 minutes, covered. pour mixture in to petri dishes and cover.
it works, it will start to break down in about 4 days to a liquid but thats generaly enough time to get a culture and transfer it to another medium or another dish...I always catch flack for this one but it does work....it just has a short life...

Store bought gelatin? Is pectin a viable alternative? I have some sterile petri dishes and I'm bored while my jars are colonizing, would love to give this a try. Also to ShrewDigsby, your link isn't working.

For all the recipes you'll need some agar powder or flakes.
LMEA (Light Malt Extract Agar)
10 grams light malt extract 10 grams agar agar
MYA (Malt Yeast Agar)
2 grams brewers yeast 10 grams malt extract 10 grams agar agar
CFA (cat food agar)
10 grams dry cat food 10 grams agar agar
OVA (ovaltine agar)
10 grams ovaltine 10 grams agar agar
FFA (fish food agar)
10 grams fish food flakes 10 grams agar agar
RFA (rabbit food agar)
10 grams rabbit food pellets 10 grams agar agar
PDA (potato dextrose agar)
Take 300 grams of potatoes. Cut them and boil them in 1/2 gallon H2O for 30 minutes on a simmer. The liquid will reduce to ~ 1 litre in that amount of time.
Take the liquid and strain it out. The starches in the liquid are what you need so toss the potatoes out or make a snack with them,
Use 500 ml of the potato water as the H2O source w/
10 grams Dextrose 10 grams agar agar

Just get real fucking lazy and get premixed since its the same damn thing. U literally just add water mix/cook together (I like to cheesecloth it) then pc. I buy LME and Agar agar separately and mix the two together, it makes me feel more like I'm doing something... but its just an extra step (and in the end more work on my wrists) I have both premix and seperate.
Shroom supply agar premix

I did not make up this procedure so not taking credit but this is what I’ve done and always worked.
Buy the 500 Ml media bottle off amazon with an orange cap, it’s Pyrex.
Mix 8 grams telephone brand agar, 8 gram light malt extract with about 400-420ml of water. Shake it up, have the cap on loosely and put it in the microwave until it pretty much boils. Be careful for it to bubble out of the bottle, make sure cap is on loose.
Shake it up good. When you shake with cap close, it’ll build pressure FYI. Fill pressure cooker up the same height as the agar in bottle. Have cap on loose enough to relieve pressure, put tin foil on the cap. Pressure cook it.

I only get specific with brands bc when I first started I was curious about brands and stuff too. This is exactly what I have and have done a couple hundred plates

I just did my first run of plates and used the MEA recipe because I'm a homebrewer and have some leftover LME I use for yeast propagation - 10g LME, 10g telephone brand agar-agar, 500ml water and a couple drops of food coloring because I'm fancy. I didn't have a media bottle (still waiting for them to show up on my doorstep) so I rinsed out an empty rum bottle, drilled a hole in the cap and stuck a piece of tyvek under the cap. PC at 15psi for ~25 minutes.
Poured 12/8, inoculated 12/9 and I noticed my first signs of growth today (12/14) on one of my plates. Cheers, mate!
I also just realized this is a 17 year old thread but I already typed my response lol.
