Temps too low?

My jars are colonizing and I think I might have some temp issues. I have 10 Pints of Lipa Yai and 24 Quarts of PE. It's been 5 days with the Lipa and I haven't seen any growth at all.
The temps here range from 61-78 daily. Is the thermal shock hurting the process or does the growth just stop when the temps get low?

Temperatures are just fine. Mycelium grows just a little slower at lower temps.

61 is pretty cold for cubes, you'll do better if you keep them a bit warmer. 70-75 is good.

What I meant it doesn't stop mycelium growing but yes, it would be better to be a bit higher than 61.

I was going to say the exact same thing. You might try researching native growing temperatures for your strain. I'm keeping mine 75-80 because they are tropical strains and I really don't want to risk screwing them up.

28-30o in my experience has been the perfect temp for the general cube strain
which is around 80-86F
though lower temps wont be so bad just slower growth.

Anything above 81F is going to slow down growth. At 86F, growth is already slowed to a crawl, and molds are being stimulated. A temperature of around 75F/26C is great unless you're colonizing a large bulk substrate, in which case you want to keep it cooler than that because the mycelium will easily generate 20 degrees of heat itself, and can literally commit suicide if your ambient temps are too high. In my shiitake farm, I keep the colonization room at 60F to prevent just this, and shiitake colonizes best at the same temperatures cubensis does. My six pound substrate blocks measure over 80F on the inside, while the ambient temperature in the room is 60F. RR
