WBS moisture issues
    #12538361 - 05/10/10 05:07 PM (14 years, 8 months ago)

I have about 15 lbs of wbs drying.. It's been about 4 hours but it still doesn't pass the spoon test. is there any other way of telling if it is dry enough to jar? Will the toilet paper test work on WBS as well as rye?

toss it in the oven for 15 mins at 300
stir it up
wait 5 more mins
give it the spoon test

i also rinse after simmering with HOT water, as my WBS was clumping and i read around
it worked (or the new wbs i bought is better)

So what if it passes RR's TP test but not the spoon test?

15 lbs is a lot. maybe leave it sit overnight for moisture to level out.

or add dry verm as necessary to adjust.

If it passes the tp test it should be fine. The whole point is you want proper moisture IN THE GRAIN not on the outside. If it passes the tp test and it's properly hydrated I'd load it in jars and sterilize.

You would take chances with 15 pounds of grain? Error on the side of dryness.

If it sticks to a spoon, its to wet.
Same for a paper towel.
