I need good Trip Music!

I downloaded some Shpongle from Kazaa. I was a bit disappointed...I thought it would be more abstract and out there. I mean it's good, but not as good as I expected. I've got a lot of FSOL which is pretty good for tripping, but does anyone have any other suggestions? I'm open to almost any kind of music.
Thanks Viking

Download more Shpongle.. some of their tracks are just amazing. As for tripping, it depends on your personality. If you're looking for mind-blowing intense insanity, I suggest Hallucinogen, Astral Projection, and the Philosomatika ShoutCast stream. Other than that, the Beatles. That's all you need. The Beatles.
Oh, and also try Biosphere.. Biosphere is very relaxing and smooth. PM me if you want any of this music, I can send it to you.
(wanders off mumbling Beatles lyrics)

I personally like listening to TOOL while tripping. Their sound is amazing. It puts me in an awesome mood. Im sure you have heard them, they have more popular songs like Schizm and Sober, but I prefer thier less famous songs like Opiate, Prison Sex, Pushit, and Eulogy(very good song).

I agree with Ped, on my last couple of trips I just listened to the Beatles and they are the only music you'll wver need. I feel that they are my friends and spiritual guides and can always count on there music to give me a very happy trip

BUY some Shpongle and maybe you'll actually hear what people are ranting and raving about.
Both albums are the most detailed plastic discs I own, and many of those details don't make it to mp3 - you're not really hearing the full spectrum, man
If you're looking for more abstract, purchase the album Are You Shpongled? and listen to that on mushrooms with headphones or lined up with a good stereo. Use the best headphones or stereo you have access to, because this is precisely what Shpongle demands
Then come back here and tell me it wasn't abstract and out there
-------------------- Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.

wow JunoCycle!
I like your taste! Bible of Dreams and Shango ARE indeed their best work in my opinion, as Classical Mushroom is my favorite Infected album!
Hey have you heard Shpongle? You'll really dig it if you love the three albums you mentioned. make sure you BUY them, because like these other three, they're extremely detailed and there's a giant loss in quality if you get it on mp3.

aaaaahhhhhh yes! The holy Ozric Tentacles
Their album "The Hidden Step" is probably the best for Ozric beginners, as it covers a wide-range of their talents and styles. These guys are highly-versitile.

I've been through a lot of trip music stages.
Hip Hop Drum & Bass (Lasted a long time) Trip Hop (Massive Attack, Portishead, Kruder and Dorfmeister, etc.) Trance (not the crappy Eurotrash stuff, but good trance) Electro (Really liked Orbital and Orb) Beatles are really great. My new favorite trip album is . . . Yankee Hotel Foxtrot by WILCO. It is perfect trip music for me. Got a little bit of electronic flare. Got Happy, yet introspective, lyrics, and it is damn fun to sing along with if you start going down a bad road. I suggest giving it a try for something different.

I don't even know what's going on . . . in myself.

Shpongle - Both albums
Shulman - In Search of a Meaningful Moment (closest thing to Shpongle)
Entheogenic - Both Albums (close to Shpongle, uses Terence McKenna samples)
Banco de Gaia - Magical Sounds and Last Train to Lhasa
Ozric Tentacles - Hidden Step and Erpland
Tool - Lateralus
Porcupine Tree - In Absentia and Stupid Dream
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here, Darkside of the Moon and Meddle
The Mars Volta - Deloused in the Comatorium (this album is amazing, simply get it, $9.99 everywhere I've looked)
There is a lot more I could mention, but this should help a little bit, get these and you won't go wrong.

The Warlocks, Rise and Fall album. Nothing beats Left and Right of the Moon, or Houses made of Glass, for me atleast. Air is also a great band, I like Moon Safari and especially Premeires Symptomes, two of their albums.

I'm all for instinctively making compilation tapes out of my collection (part of the week before ritual) - just sorta weed through what I'm listening to and pick out the best.
Favourites are Cat Stevens Foreigner Suite (17 minutes of brilliance)- which is completely and utterly a trip song - starts with a heartbeat like rhythm and the line "There are no more words, I can use, because the meaning is still left for you to choose"
(On the album Catch Bull at Four) 18th Avenue by Stevens is good too - his recollection of an acid trip he had while touring in Kanzas!
Procol Harem's first album - Whiter Shade of Pale, Christmas Camel, She Wandered Through the Garden Fence - fantastic deep, trippy lyrics.
Bowie's Space Oddity mainly for the title track and Memories of a Free Festival.
Grateful Dead's American Beauty - if only for Sugar Magnolia - think that might be because I became one with that track during my last trip Workingman's Dead by GD too and some of the tracks from Anthem for the Sun.
Garcia & Grisman's All Around the World album - the saviour of any "insane troll logic" bad trip moments - sooooo mellow you'll calm the fuck down in no time.
The Doors Greatest Hits (double CD edition)- generally for the last third, some tracks are a bit too intense and creepy earlier on.
& many more
Anyway - that's just my taste - I don't hold with this specific music for the 'journey', or the notion that you have to listen to music that you don't usual listen to.
Music is so evocative of mood and emotion I'd just suggest picking the songs that reflect the moods you want to go through and making a compilation.
-------------------- "You've got to get hold of the thread of marching time, pull the fuck thing down, get on the end of it and pang yourself to the infinitude of absolute mind"
Ken Campbell - Furtive Nudist
"The mystery of life is not a problem to be solved but a reality to be experienced" - Aart van der Leeuw

well... i always say "you can't go wrong with Black Light Syndrome" so give that a try! (Bozzio - the god of drummers Levin & Stevens - king crimsons bass player)
and similar to that style are also Attention Deficit which are amazing as well!
and last but not least this crazy japanies cd i got from a friend of mine... this guy synchornized human voices with the beats of a tabla drum on top of amazing sound scapes.... highly recomended!!! the cd is called: Asa Chang & Junray - Jun Ray Song Chang

what bitrate are those files?
maybe I've got sensitive ears or something but even at 256, the mp3s just don't sound as FULL as the CDs..
for some music is barely makes a difference but for the Shpongles and for my ears it certainly does.
and besides I think if you are impressed by or have enjoyed or have been freaked out by somebody's music, you should float them a few bucks by actually purchasing their music.
They provided a service to you.. provide them with money so they can make the next one even more epic - this goes for all favorite artists IMO.

had good experiences with the following: dead can dance the tea party (in particular edges of twilight) pink floyd (in particular animals) usually i am out in the woods late at night when i am tripping so i don't usually have music with me (other than the music of the river and trees and coyotes!)

W0rd. Or Cherry Peel, which is just as great.
And:
Beaches And Canyons by Black Dice The Perfect Prescription by Spacemen 3 Music Has The Right To Children by Boards of Canada
Or the piece "Poeme Electronique" by Edgar Varese! AMAZING. I highly recommend this. Especially when tripping.

I listen to uplifting tracks until i come down, then its usually some deep lyrical hip hop, if a sad song comes on when im coming up it fucks me up so bad.

Ugly Casanova is always great for me. I love the collaboration between 4 guys from different indie/indie-ish bands, plus the lead singer has definately done some drugs in his day... he's the lead singer for Modest Mouse..
Modest Mouse - The Moon and Antarctica ... you may want to leave out a few songs, go throught the whole cd. Some of the songs are based on feelings of loneliness and dispair, some others are upbeat, and some just fuck with your head... also look into "Everywhere and His Nasy Parlour Tricks" (I believe..)
Godspeed You Black Emperor! is also good. All instrumental, no words. Very chill, listen to a cd all the way through, it takes you on a journey... yanqui u.x.o is my favorite.
Phish is good, but not for later on in the trip, just too upbeat for me...
Also look for Bob Weir/Ratdog.

Wow.
I've already downloaded Bombat and Cities of the future (the only two I can find on kazaa from IM the supervisor)

Trance is the ultimate tripping music.
Astral Projection (goa trance) - Mind blowing - as mentioned - Infected Mushroom (psy trance) - Just plain trippy as fuck. Some of their more ambient stuff is perfect for tripping, it puts you in a different world.

I haven't had my first trip yet, but I have always been a fan of They Might Be Giants. Based on how their music makes me feel when I listen to them high, I think they would make for great tripping music.
My favorite song of theirs is Jessica from the from the Why Does the Sun Shine album. I remember listening to it while high, and it was as if I was "riding" on the waves of the music. very hard to explain, but when I go through with my first trip, this will definitely be on my playlist. I highly recommend it.
Also a band I recently discovered which might be interesting is TreeWave. very interesting music made with an Atari 2600, comadore 64, a 386 computer, and a dot matrix printer. worth checking out.
Hope some of this post helped.

The Berzerker arent that great. they are alright but generally i dont like their sound at all.
If you want some good metal, Opeth for teh winzors when your tripping. Burzum is good also, as well as Amon Amarth, In Flames, Soilwork, The Crown, and Therion (<-- Opera Metal, its pretty badass)
I also have another musician to note.
mc chris
haha i spent all night last night jamming to mc chris. check him out if you havent. www.mcchris.com
Fett's Vette for teh win

Goddamn, motherfuckin' Tool! But Tool can be a wee bit intense for some. The Beatles are great. Pink Floyd. Burning Spear. Ben Harper. Blind Melon. DJ Shadow. Ween. Essentially whatever you like and can groove to. I just really like music.
