My spawn lab with pictures 1

I'd like to show you my hobby room, or spawn lab, that I have built few months ago. I had my autoclave before, but when I found this laminar flow hood used with reasonable price I had to build a room for it. Lab is located at building outside my house. Lab is 3 doors from outside. Room is heated, others rooms are just cold storage or workspace. Lab room has no built air exchange at the moment cause I'm not incubating much stuff there.
Laminar flow hood is with 3 36'x36' filters and its 9 feet long. I got it used and I was a bit scared how the filters are. They were fine luckily. Here is a picture when I was building room to see it whole. I gotta love the stainless steel tabletop! Its so easy to keep clean. White frame of the flow hood is a bit rusty but I don't mind really.

Autoclave is bought from army excess sale, its checked and not used. Its 35 qt. Its vertical so I really should be using bags to get it full use. It has pressure control and a timer that doesn't start until pressure is reached. So I can leave it alone to do the job. It also keeps the pressure and drops it slowly when the sterilization cycle is completed. Its 380v and 6kW. Here is a picture where you can see some of the controls and some pictures from front.

Temperatures in the lab are controlled with electric thermostat.

And then pictures from lab, first from middle to left and then to right. There's some tools I need and a shelf for incubating agar cultures. There are some bulk boxes too but they are not there usually. I just made them some days ago.

Flow hood control panel. Theres no UV light but I guess some models have it.

And back wall, something to make room not so lab. I know I shouldn't have it there but I think the flow hood can take it.

Lights are wired so that in switch off position there is this blue led lighting and in switch on there is main lighting.

This has really made a lot of things easier, some one might even call it easy mode. I take it as a chance to try something much more difficult in the future. Thanks for reading!

Looks awesome,
Is there nowhere else to put your pressure cooker/oven device? there is some dead space on your table top that is inaccessible at the moment because of its placement.

9'X3' of laminar flow!...you could have 3 monkeys doing sterile work all day long with plenty of elbow room. Very nice setup you got there. I hope you don't have a woman cause she's gonna get jealous of all the time and attention you spend in/on that lab.

After look at your autoclave I think you could get quite a few more jars in there than that one tray allows. It's hard to tell exactly the size of the space inside, but it looks like you could fill that try up with jars in the vertical position then put another try on the top position and lay some more jars horizontally. Or you might be able to have all three levels filled with jars laying horizontally. How many jars can you get in there on that one tray?

I don't mind it taking some of the space cause I can keep extra stuff there and I can reach it anyway. There's still plenty of workspace, about 200 cm. I like that my autoclave is in the stream of the flow hood when I unload it. One thing that is good and bad is that it warms the room a bit. Good at winter but bad at summer.

Yeah I can fit a bit more if I stack them horizontally. If I put jars vertically I can fit around 7-8 qt at one cycle. With bags I could almost double it. I haven't tried all jars horizontally, but Ive tried half of them and I did get some extra jars in. I think I could get 2-3 more jars if all are horizontally. But I'm using lots of different sized jars at the moment. Its not the biggest autoclave, but will fit my needs. I just have to do more cycles if I want more spawn..

good lord man! you need to start considering growing edibles and start a business. with that kind of setup you could really make a real attempt at getting into a small business.
do you think you have a market for that in your area?
maybe you could grow some expensive medicinals and export them via the internet

Yes I believe here is quite nice market for mushrooms in my area. I'm not planning to sell fresh very far, just locally. I'm going to start from local square market just to see how I goes. I'm looking for my options to produce medical mushrooms that I can dry. I hate the idea of dealing with fresh ones cause the limited time they can be stored. Dried ones sounds better option for me. But these are just plans in my head at the moment. I do have some shiitake and oyster mycelium already. But I'm not in a hurry, I want to do this slow.

Thanks for all the feedback! The lab took me weeks to build. I had to build one wall with a door, paint walls and the floor. I had to do electricity. It took 1 hr and 4 men to get flow hood inside. I had to cut a hole to wall. It weights like a small car, we couldn't lift it, just push it a little by little while holding other end up with a long piece of wood and keeping the other ends legs on a snow pusher (I don't know the right word for it).
The lab is now in use but I'm still trying to improve it every day. For example, now when it is summer time I should build garden hose water supply for autoclave, now I'm just carrying water in a few 2 ltr bottles. I'm also drooling for Bacticinerator, a magnetic stirrer and mycobags & sealing machine. But I have something I want get to my fruiting room first. Sometime in the future I have to a build real bigger fruiting room, it's coming to same building than lab but with a different entrance from outside. Its about 10m^2. I have to insulate it too. It is quite cold here at the winter.
I love this hobby, it clearly has a place in my life. I have my own book project in finnish going on, it has now 43 pages. I've got nice feedback from it and many new people have found this hobby trough it. If you want to see I added it as an attachment.

Amazing room. Any estimates as to how much it has cost so far, or is that too personal a question?
