I suppose theres a point to which one becomes easier than the other. If you are only doing a few cases of jars, I would still say PF in terms of simplicity. In terms of weight, yes, bulk would be they way to go, eh? Maybe they call it a 'bulk grow' for a reason.
Are we talking weight or simplicity? Both? If OP's just stating that he's overworking himself with tedious cakes, that is pretty obvious. If its just about weight, doing bulk would be a hell of a lot easier and the obvious choice. If its just about producing some decent mushrooms and simplicity, PF.
This is a good question for someone who gets a lot of weight from his cakes like LeopardMan.

This is not PFtek vs Grain for bulk. It's obvious grain is superior. Everything I've said is my opinion. I do not like PFtek.
I can pasturize 9 coir bricks with ease, I am sorry you have a hard time clonefc. I did this

Mix. Load. PC. Inoculate. Fruit. I don't think it gets anymore simple than that. No casing, no spawning, no grain prep, yadda, yadda, yadda...
No way!!
If you look at weight, a couple of mono tubs will give me 14 ounces on the first flush. And I never case my tubs, there's no need.
Lets see how much work it takes for you to get 14 ounces from the pf tek...
I dont think the argument is grain vs pftek for weight. I think its which is easier.
In my opinion grain is less effort for the reward, think efficiency.

So I guess thats all I really needed to say.

-updated first post.
To clarify, I do bulk and only bulk. This is merely a side project. I have plenty of bulk going on right now. This is really just to grow PE and because I wanted to give PFtek another whirl now that I am more experienced. No dissing PFtek at all. It is very, very good.

Hey, Quick question-
PF tek requires a top layer of verm. To keep the humidity in the jar, right? (I hope im thinking of the right tek) Now when I did it, I forgot to put the verm. in and all 10 jars showed good initial myc. Growth but eventually dried out and everything stopped growing. I have seen some people say not to bother with the top layer of verm.- How do they keep their jars from drying out? Have I missed something? Thanks.

The top layer of verm is used as a contam barrier. Vermiculite contains virtually no nutrients so no contams can grow on it. This barrier is used in addition to micropore tape over the holes.
You want to drill 4 holes no larger than 1/8th inch. You inoculate through these holes and retape them while the jar is in the glovebox.
Read here for a good version of PFtek posted by Nbin http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/9285876#9285876
Short on time, hope this helps.
