ive tried straight compost/straw innoculations, and got 0 germination on the compost ( which was made strictly for mushroom growth ) BUT the stray pieces of straw sticking above the compost, did allow germination ( which moved into the compost and eventually worked well ) so i dont think its feasable to directly innoculate compost with a multispore syringe...with or without sterilization.... but i may be wrong

No, it won't work. A friend has tried sterilized poo in mason jars and had nothing grow after a month. He never tried straw AND poo, so I guess that would work according to this thread.

Instead of trying to inoculate the compost with the syringe, just make up some pint jars of rye berries or finch seed. Doesn't take too long and then all you need to do is mix in that spawn with the compost using about 1:9 spawn to substrate.

I imagine because he wants to do cakes with compost which has more "umph" than BRF.

Are you serious?
The term "casing" as it is used in the mushroom cultivation is the method by which substrate (either PF style cakes or colonized grain) is crumbled into smaller pieces, and covered with a non -nutritive layer such as peat, vermiculite, coco coir and different mixtures with additives. How do I case? Casing is a simple process. You crumble your substrate, layer it in an appropriate container, and cover with your casing layer. A Detailed "Casing for Dummies" write-up goes over each step of the casing process with pictures.
non-nutritive being the operative word.
