Todays find! South East Melbourne.
    #12530355 - 05/09/10 04:35 AM (13 years, 9 months ago)

Hi guys. My girlfriend and i went out today to look for some magic mushy's. It's our first real go at it, so some id's would be awesome. Thanks for any help in advance.

All species were found SE Melbourne in deciduous forest. I think that possibly Species 1 and 2 are both Psilocybe subaueringosa. Species 3 i am unsure although it is very blue. And species 4 is possibly also psilocybe subaueringosa, just very young. Thanks

Species 1

Species 2

Species 3

Species 4

Species 2 are not subs in my opinion.

In fact none of them look good to me. Wait for a TI though.

None of your photos are psilocybe subaeruginosa.

Gill color and caps don't match. If you have looked at pictures of Psilocybe subaeruginosa before and can't tell why your finds aren't them then I don't really know how we should be able to tell you why they aren't subs. Pay more attention to detail. #2 for example has gills that are almost white. You won't ever find that on a Psilocybe. Also, from looking at the gills of #1 I am sure that the spore print will be brown. You also won't see that in a Psilocybe.

It took me a couple of tries before I was able to ID subs.

Look for the blue bruising and as German Kahuna said, google photos of psilocybe subaeruginosa.

I will confess something that should be quite obvious, CC.  I love mushrooms, i.e. fungi.  I really do.  I am talking about a strong feeling, i.e. emotion, for them.  I think they are beautiful.  I even dream of them.
