I grafted in spring from this cluster. It was the center.I put the end of the tricho into a peice of PVC pipe to constrict the graft site on it.

Comario, please forgive me for being OT, but i thougfht this was cool:

It occured to me how this pic White Rasta posted ilustrates the fractal nature inherent in plants. notice how the cluster as a whole resembles the form of a single plant:

just thougfht i?d mention it.

I recomend as soon as you have a vigorous tap root,to harvest the main button for rerooting as you would any other cactus or grafting to a pedro. The taproot quickly regrows new buttons (as the clusters you see)and you begin anew with the original or grow it out to abot the size of a large apple as a graft(from golf ball to apple in +-2yrs)a lopho the size of a good size orange gives a powerfully spiritual experience. All of the collection you see (minus a dozen single button grafts I gave to some Native friends and a half dozen "samples for bioassay")came from a single button about 14 yrs ago By using the rerooting and grafting system lophos CAN be propagated much faster than would be believed.PS thanx for the props on the "circle of elders" but I kinda feel like I am just doing caretaking for a good and wise plant teacher. It has taught me how to care for it and make it thrive in rainy cold Oregon.....I kind of envy IT for being able to get through such a thick skull as mine
PS the cirlce you saw will be six new plants and ?# of new will grow from the remaining root. The six will have roots able to sustain regrowth in 2 yrs then it begins again :wink:WR
