First time grower, just a quick question and intro UPDATES- PINS!

Hi guys, first I just want to say that I love this site and it has given me just about every answer to date!
Anyways I inoculated 2 BRF 1/2 pint cakes with a reputable spore syringe. Colonized nicely and are now in my home designed domed fruiting chamber. The chamber is a domed clear design I bought at a garden store, with expanded clay pellets and an air pump/stone for increased humidity. So far it's been about 3 days since I dunked and rolled the cakes. No pins but the myc is fuzzing up all around the rolled layer of verm. I will try and post pics this afternoon when I get home from work.
My question regards the air pump. I fan the chamber several times a day but upon reading I realized I may not have to due to the FAE from the air pump. Can someone confirm this?
Thanks alot!

UPDATE

I just want to thank everyone, this site is fantastic! I appreciate it all, and best of all I found a very interesting hobby that rewards me. =) So far I count in total, over 50 pins between the two cakes I birthed. This is day 9 in the fruiting chamber FYI.
Enjoy the pins, I will have more pics to come.

I've never personally seen pins after 3 days, I've had cakes go 10 days before I see any signs of change, so I wouldn't worry about that.
The pump might not be too great, is it on constantly? Can you measure the humidity?

Yes. Someone can confirm it, and someone else can tell you to fan anyway. Do what works in your situation. So many variables: the room it is in, the size of all the various holes air travels through, the volume and temp of the box, what the air-pump had for breakfast that day... Hm, is Mercury still retrograde? Oh. It is. Well....
Circumlocution aside, do one with and one without fanning, note any differences. Fuzzy mic after 3 days sounds pretty good though...

Can you post pictures or a more detailed description of your FC setup? Frinkz is right, just give them a few more days and you should start seeing pins (as long as your FC setup is legit...)

I will def gets pics up this evening. The FC looks like the mycodome I ran across on the internet, but didn't want to drop 160 or whatever on it. It might even be the same dome to the T. I kinda copied that idea.....
The air pump runs 24/7, and the stone is a circular type, about the size of a petri dish. Both cakes are in the same chamber. The only holes in the dome is the opening in the top, controlled by a sort of "disk" that can change the size of the opening from full open to full closed. I also rigged up a computer fan hooked up to a 9 volt that i run twice a day for about 5 minutes. Humidity is always above 90% but varies from 90-97% read from a digital hydrometer. Insight anyone? =)

Digital humidity gauges suck at suck high humidity levels. get a analog one or two and calibrate them with the wet towel method.
Air pumps really don't move very much air. The computer fan might work but twice a day is not enough. Also you need another hole/opening in order for the air to flow properly...ever tried to pour evaporated milk out of a can with only one hole? It matters not whether your fan is blowing in or out it still needs another opening to equalize the pressure.

I had a 2 day hangover and when I came back to life there was some nice fruits waiting on me. They've gotten bigger though since I've been fanning more often. I've also been giving them more light so I can't be for sure if it needed more fae. I noticed when I don't fan for a while it smells like a stinky foot by the time I do. Pumps are a good alternative if you don't like cleaning.

OK, where would one get a analog hydro? Also insight to the calibration method? TIA!
The only reason why I run the comp. fan so rarely is that it seems to drasticly lower the humidity if I keep it on too long as it blows to the outside, sucking air from the top opening. The cakes seem to be nice and moist.

Sounds like normal for three days, the shooting out myc is fairly normal and a good sign, but for pins may indicate your rH or your temps are a little high. Depending on the size of your dome...and the output of your airpump..you may or may not need to fan. IME airpumps dilute the air, add some fresh air, help with humidity....but are not actually providing the full fresh air exchange. In order to get pins keep the fresh air up up up! Good luck cant wait to see pix.

Cigar shops have them. You can also get them online for cheap. Try not to get one that is too cheap though.
yeah I bet the fan does suck out the humidity, but that isn't so bad because moisture evaporating off of the cakes is a pinning trigger. Just be sure to make up for that by misting regularly. You'll have fruits soon I'm sure...

Oh, and to calibrate a humidity gauge just wrap it up in a pretty moist towel for 30 minutes. When you unwrap it immediately adjust the set screw so that it reads 99 percent humidity. Try to make sure you get one that has a calibration screw on the back. Most of them do but the really cheap ones sometimes don't.

Wrap the hygrometer in a wet towel for 1 hour then manually set it to 100%
Good analog hygrometers from a cigar shop are best

OK here are my cakes: say A and B respectfully.
A:

AND B:

I picked up a 9$ analog hydrometer on the way home from work, in the midst of calibrating it. I am thinking I will continue to fan4-5 times a day while also relying on the air pump for some extra FAE. Won't hurt right? =)
This is the FC I built. Copied the mycodome thing because I like aesthetics and I thought it looked nice/easy to use.

And the ONLY air hole minus the fan itself.

Please advise accordingly. Thanks alot guys, yet again so helpful!

that looks great so far the little setup seems to be working already and the myceluim "fuzzing over" is it getting ready to knot
and that means pins you should see pins either today or tomorrow i bet
i would add a little 6500 florescent compact light just for a good pin set , with me when i get better light i get a better pinset

About the lighting, my FC is in my closet, which has a 48" 3000K fluorescent bulb mounted from the closet's ceiling. I have it on roughly12-15 hours a day. Now I know it isn't 6500K but is this enough? If not I was thinking of propping it near a window for several hours a day on top of the closet light.

Great to hear your mushrooms will much prefer a 6500K light over a 3000k
Good Luck
