Fresh shroom to inoculate bulk substrate?Time till 1stflush
    #1252098 - 01/27/03 06:22 AM (14 years, 17 hours ago)

Hi Everyone. I have read PF BulkHip oven tech for bulk substrate creation. I have also rad that if you blend up a fresh shroom with distilled wter in a food processer (strait out of the dish washer) and inject it into the substrate it will colinise much, MUCH faster. Could anyone give me an idea of how fast this would be? From the time of injection tillthe first flush. I heard around 1 week for full colinization and 1 week after casing before the first flush. I know this method is kinda open to contams but if the food processer is strait outa the dish washer and you kill the bacteria in the air with the water/bleach mix wont the large amount of mycelium present kill any small contams? Any help you could give would be VERY helpfull. Keep on growing people.

This sounds reasonable. If all goes perfect.

What about contams?  Some people have told me there is to much risk of contams while others (this is what I believe)say that since you are using mycelium (and lots of it) even if there are a few contams they will be killed quite quickly by the mycelium.  What do you think?

Well i think it would work.  Just spray the blender with isypropl achohal to disinfect it.  2 weeks till first flush?!  I'd say 3 min if everything goes perfect.  I did a grain to grain transfer a week ago and cased the jars yesterday so using mycelium is MUCH faster than multispore innoculation.  Just my 2 cents....

Contams i wouldn't worry about unless your idea was to pour this mushroom water onto your compost directly....that would be a bad idea.  If you use the mushroom water to innoculate sterilized rye...and then use that to innculate your bulk substrate i think your success would be much better.

3 weeks min.?  I hope not!  From what I can gather,if you use a good amount of mycelium in the inoculation it should only take about a week to fully colinize the substrate (if you crumble it around to mix it up in the bag every 3-4 days) and have a filtered air tube or filter patch to allow it to breath.  Anno seems to think it will take around that long.  (Fingers crossed)

Sorry, i was talking about colonization to fruit time!!  2 weeks seemed very quick to me.

Plus all my inccubating goes on around 70-80f......84 is optimal.

A few questions....

After blending the fresh shrooms up in the blender/food processor, do you just suck some of the liquid puree into a sterilized syringe? Or is another method used to transfer the liquid to the targed substrate/spawn?

Is it possible to store this liquid for any period of time? Or is an immediate innoculations necessary?

I have been told that you just suck it up in a syringe. If it gets blocked push the fluid out a little to clear it and then keep sucking it up. I have also been told it can keep in the fridge for one or two day but is best to use fresh.

Just use more inoculant than you would normally. This not only speeds up the time it takes to colonise but it helps the odds of killing any contams.

I would just crack the lids on my jars and pour some in straight from the blender. Just do it fast and sterilise the air around your working enviornment, or work in front of a hepa filter.
