Questions about a shotglass grow

Hey guys, I'm a long time lurker, and have been slowly and methodically digesting information from this site for the past 6 months or so.
My first grow is currently underway (8 1/2 pint BRF jars, inocculated with B+ spores), and whilst I wait for the first signs of mycelical growth, I'd like to start work on something else. I've been reading about liquid cultures, and I must say that it's massively appealing to me.
Now for my question...would it be feasible to make a BRF cake in a shotglass, inocculate it with spores, and then make a liquid culture with the resulting mycelium? My justification for using a shot glass is that propagation would be quick, and since I won't be fruiting it, yield is not of a massive concern.
Any other mycological experiments you could suggest would be fantastic. I'm chomping at the bit waiting for these jars to colonise!

Its hard to pull myc off a cake & keep it all sterile. Verm will plug a syringe. If you have a PC, try a tiny jar of grain instead, then you have GLC

Regular BRF cakes are indeed not a very wise thing to use, when it comes to LC's.
However, grain LC's are much more "safe" than honey LC's or something similar, simply because you can actually see it's clean mycelium and don't just have to speculate on it's sterility.

Cheers guys, I'll give grain a go
Also, just spotted some myc on my substrate yesterday, woohoo!
Really wish that I'd soaked the jars and removed the labels first...

In the opposite direction - I once had a tiny bit of LC leftover, so for fun I made up a half dozen BRF shotglasses and Pc'd them with just tinfoil covers. injected a little bit of LC into each and eventually fruited them in a pyramid! They were actually pretty productive given their size.

indeed do not get culture off a shot glass look up the many LC teks on the site contams is high risk, with Liquid culture you will see the viability of it as it grows and will be able to inoculate many more jars :>
