Don't know if this is in the right forum, but I was just at the www.lycaeum.org site and got this message: --------------- This site has been shut down. 62.234.82.51 Monday, 27-Jan-2003 06:52:05 PST Your IP has been logged. --------- Why the hell would the DEA shut this site down? It wasn't illegal. Freedom of speech?? Fucking DEA censorship

mmmm... the site is still down. Don't know why someone would hack lycaeum.... Could better hack the DEA site.
Let's hope it's just a hack and not the DEA.

The frontpage works but when you click on chemicals or plants you get the DEA message. http://www.lycaeum.org/warning.shtml

Your IP has been logged Ooooh I m so scared there gona get me now. I wont be able to sleep for weeks.
Well The Dea Can kiss my shine metal arse, it dosent matter what they try to close down we all know the war on drugs is LOST.
It is impossible to control the population, if you shut one site down I am sure another 10 will pop up. Unless these basterds start executing people for these so called drug crimes then they aint gona win and even then they wont cause the world will just become a more blooder place with people fighting to defend there rights to take what they want. If all drug users stud up and confronted the dea at once they would all probably be out numbered 50 to 1 at least. Next they will be blameing the Lycaeum for terroism and bin laden and all the other crap there comeing up with.
Oh well just my Point of view.

It's just hacked..
There is no point to log someone's IP plus if the site were to really be shut down the entire site wouldn't work and there'd be a message on the same page... it's just some pissant 14 year old with some exploit they probably got from www.rootshell.com or some other dumb site that they ran and thought it'd be funny to copy and upload DEA gif files and make that shitty little page.
Don't worry it's not real in any possible way.

Well the URL yuou posted in the thread leads to the DEA warning sign. However when I type in the regular URL to the lycaeum:
http://www.lycaeum.org
it goes right to the sight and everything seems to be working okay.
Maybe it was a joke while someone at lycaeum rebotted the pages?
mj
It works though. ANd the DEA cannot close up a sight.
acidtrip.com closed up becase the operator was growing weed. so he was not able to pay the $1000.00 a month to run his large 1000 page trip sight. now he is back. He always had a picture of anarc on his site. He claimed the narc was trying to bust his sight.
Orin Hatch (Senator, Utah) hes dangerous man. tried to pass legistlature to remove all drug books from libraries and all chemical journals which provided formulae to make such chemicals and death penalties for anyone who teaches someone else how to manufacture drugs. He is scary.
mj
But his bill failed in botht the house and senate in differeate formats.
mj
They cannot turn off your sites. Hell there are thousands of one page personal sites also on drugs of different kinds.

The warning is still there. Hit go on Chemicals or Most common.
And as far as the DEA, pretty hard to tell just how far they can go these days not that I have a doubt it was a hack.

Because of the warning page you get when you click go on chemicals etc..
You guys are right, it probably was some hacker. But why would a hacker attack a cool site Lycaeum? Hackers should attack sites like RIAA and upload some crazy pics

That is certainly a bad situation for Erowid. I would not be surprised if more than just Erowid was talked about, though. Shit maybe even the Shroomery will get a bad wrap from CBS which is bullshit. I hate the fucking media and how they cooperate so well with our fuckin gov't.

Well, they should allow mirrors to be made in case anything does happen. Its better safe than sorry. Certain sites offer a zip file of the whole site. Maybe erowid should do that.
