Installed fluorescent, 6500K, 100-watt equivalent lights in bedroom. Accidental pinning possible?

I just bought four fluorescent, 6500K, 100-watt equivalent lights and installed two of them in the bedroom whose closet contains my PF jars. The other two will be installed above my shotgun terrarium once my cakes have been placed inside, which won't be long now.

Considering that some of my cakes are nearly done colonizing, should I take care not to allow the light in this room to shine directly on them when I open the closet door, so as not to initiate early pinning?

Light isn't as much of a pinning initiator as previously thought. Keeping them in complete darkness during initial colonization/incubation is kind of old information that has been since retracted by the individual who stated that.

So I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

Yeah, I understand it's not a problem under normal circumstances, but I'm wondering if the fact that these lights are exactly the kind used to encourage primordia could make a difference. I don't think most people install these lights for everyday use, as I have.

it doesn't matter.  i have my jars right next to my fruiting chamber, which of course uses 6500k light.

what your jars don't have is FAE, which is more of a pinning trigger (along with drying of the substrate,  because the mycelium thinks oh crap we're dieing time to fruit) then light is.

light gives energy and tells what direction to grow...not as important as FAE

So far it looks as if the pinning performance is even better, when the substrates are put to a circadian rhythm, during the consolidation phase. I've found no difference if they're colonizing in a 12/12 light cycle all the way. As said above, light alone won't make them pin.

So, am I correct to think that as long as primary triggers are absent--there's still substrate left to colonize, there's adequate water and food, and there's little FAE--no amount or quality of light will ever cause pinning? That would make evolutionary sense. Pinning in response to sunlight alone would be a selective disadvantage, as it would mean the fungus would often fail to colonize the maximum possible area before distributing its spores.

I have about the equivalent of 600 watts of CFL's in my mushroom room.  I just set all my jars or spawn bags out in the open on a shelf and don't have any problems with early pinning.

So you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
