Good way to keep jars humid?? Necessary?
    #1250732 - 01/26/03 03:32 PM (21 years, 3 months ago)

I am making my first batch and could use some help about humidity while the mycilium grows. The RH here is around 30%, and from what I understand the little guys like it around 75% at this stage.

Is the humidity at this stage important?

If so, I was planning on putting my jars in the rubbermaid with some perlite and having the cover cracked a little so it doesn't get too humid. But I am worried that this will expose my perlite to contaminates. I'm hoping you guys can help my out with this and have some suggestions. I just want what is best for the little guys! Thanks.

Okay from my understanding, the air doesnt need to be humid during inncubation as long as your lids are tight...Whats important is the temp, and that the substrate is moist enough....83-85 degrees is ideal I belive....85 being the highest you'd want...

ok cool...

It has seemed like no one has a real strong opinion about keeping a good RF during incubation

Don't worry about it. Your substrate should provide the correct humidity.

Yes angry is correct. The water level in the substrate should provide the correct RH for colonization. Although as long as ambient RH isn't 0% it will be fine. If 0% it will begin to take moisture out of jars. Anything higher u should be fine.

Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance. It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded.

thanks guys

That was the only thing that really wasn't clear to me from the guides and faqs. Now I have to go innoculate with the oven tek! ooooh i'm excited (doing the Mr. Burns finger wiggling... excellent)

p.s. (for other noobs) wash cloths burn fast if you don't watch your water levels... smoke detectors and other not good stuff happens!
