Canada's socialist party picks new leader

The New Democratic Party of Canada has picked Jack Layton to be it's leader.
Even though he has never had a seat in the house of commons, his supposed talents as a speaker and influencer may have convinced a lot of members to vote for him.
He's probably as good a pick as any. We'll see how it goes.
The NDP socialist? Well, not anymore. It's true. But they still are the most credible vehicle to advance the socialist cause in Canada. Medicare, public pensions, UI, workers rights, etc. all have their roots in the NDP/CCF. (the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation was the forerunner of the NDP)
Prime Minister Layton? Hopefully.

At least it's not scary like American politics.

I saw a thing on TV about the new leftward swing in Canadian politics. And even though Paul Martin's an evil capitalist he'll have to fix healthcare and stuff and end up looking okay. And the new polls from last week showed the NDP gaining a bunch of ground and the Alliance in dead last. And the Green Party and how there might be a split between the Green Party and the NDP like there is/was between the Alliance/Reform and the Conservatives, the new left-wing guys versus the old left-wing guys.
The NDP is in a good place, kind of. There's plenty of anti-Americanism and plenty of people dying in hospital waiting rooms and stuff and an election pretty soon with a freshnew leader.
They should be fine unless Jack Layton turns out to be goofy. He's the fresh- face-young-hip-guy-who-doesn't-wear-a- tie-and-listens-to-rock-n'-roll-music guy, the NDP's Stockwell Day, but he'd have to be pretty goofy to ruin everything.

After Slash Gordon, I really miss Glen Clark.
It was Harcourt who resinged over bingogate anyways. Not that that matters...Glen Clark had to resign cuz he was accused of using his power as premier to offer a benefit (casino licence) to his neighbour, in exchange for a new deck on his cottage. Ridiculous. He was latter found not guilty. It was a set-up.
Anyways, the weird stuff the NDP did in BC can not compare with what Slash Gordon and company are doing to royally fuck the province. Trying to take away the meger senior citizens free bus passes? Or tuition hikes? Or even inflating the deficit to record numbers! (through tax breaks for those who need them least)
Or that he wants to set aside forest to cut down, in order to "balance" the concept of preserving forest. (like parks)
Dig?

I think I'll agree...even if he does wear a tie. Remember Stock showing up in a wetsuit to a press meeting? A little too fresh?

Stockwell Day is such a wanker...

He could of been the biggest wanker ever of all time in the history of Canada. Not many people bomb as hard as he did in Ottawa. His own party split up over his alledged 'wankerness', and eventually booted him. Did he even last a year? Thank God he wasn't elected PM.
Remeber how on the radio, his supporters would call him 'Stock'? Gag me with a spoon.
Jack Layton and him shouldn't even be compared, I'm realizing...
